This summer, 14 multi-talented interns from seven universities brought energy and fresh perspectives to our team. From architecture to engineering, sustainability to structural design, our interns tackled real-world projects and made a genuine impact. The annual internship retreat is the highlight of our summer internship program here at Clark Nexsen. This three-day event in Raleigh exemplifies our commitment to nurturing bright, emerging talent in design and engineering. A centerpiece of the retreat is our trip to the North Carolina Museum of Art, where interns explore and experience design firsthand. This visit broadens their perspective on architecture and the built environment, sparking creativity and new ideas. Back at our offices, interns focus on collaboration, joining forces with experienced colleagues to tackle real-world design challenges. In these team settings, they propose constructive solutions and gain insights into professional project dynamics. We're incredibly proud of our internship program and the opportunity it provides to cultivate these promising individuals. Exciting news — Clark Nexsen has been awarded the lead design role for the Virginia Department of Transportation $37.2 million Albemarle Intersection Bundling No. 2 Design-Build Project in Albemarle County, Virginia. This landmark project for our transportation practice, led by Steve Whitlock, will significantly enhance safety and traffic flow at five key intersections in the Charlottesville area. Our designs include four roundabouts and a continuous Green-T intersection, integrating multi-modal elements like shared-use paths, bike lanes, and other pedestrian-friendly features. This project showcases Clark Nexsen's growing expertise in large-scale transportation solutions, and we're thrilled to partner with Curtis Contracting, Inc. and Kittelson & Associates, Inc. on this initiative. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this 8,500 sf wellness retreat center targets carbon neutrality through solar and geothermal energy. Its design, bridging a creek to connect treatment and water spa wings, demonstrates how net-zero buildings can be both beautiful and practical.
