"Be consistent" is such vague advice... Consistency has so many different forms. Going to a conference every year is consistency Going to the gym every day is also consistency We inherently decide the timeframe of what we consider 'consistent'. A question I like to ask myself when setting a goal instead is... "How regularly should I do this to the point where it'll be extremely unlikely that I don't achieve my goal?" For example, if I want to get in good shape, I might then decide to go to the gym every day. It'll be extremely unlikely that I'll be out of shape. That gives me a frame of what MY consistency should look like but of course, that's different for everyone. So focus on what YOUR consistency should be to align with YOUR goals.

What do gorillas, freestyle rap and dancing have to do with leading change? Each is a fun, effective and memorable way to demonstrate my three core tenets of leading transformation in an organization or as part of a team: Tenet #1: See the Gorilla 🦍 Inattention blindness is the psychological term that describes what happens when an individual lacks the attention to see something unexpected. The most famous experiment demonstrating inattention blindness is called the Invisible Gorilla test (Google it if unfamiliar) and routinely proves that 50% of people fail to see a person in a gorilla suit walking through the frame! Every organization has blind spots. A primary culprit is the modern organizational structure which is great at creating vertical clarity but often fails to link the verticals together naturally for external stakeholder clarity and value.  See the Gorilla reminds us to understand and address blind spots, not just to fix gaps but to innovate and create new opportunities for efficiency and growth. Tenet #2: Find your Flow 🎤 Flow is another established psychological concept that describes being so fully immersed and focused on an activity that it appears effortless. Sports fans might also know the concept of flow as being "in the zone". I am an unapologetic lover of all things hip-hop; always have been and always will be.  My favorite artist right now is a freestyler named Harry Mack.  I've seen him live twice and have never experienced a human being create on the spot in the way that he does. For the unindoctrinated, please do yourself a favor and visit YouTube to appreciate his other-worldly talent. It truly is flow personified. Find your Flow aspires to create this level of clarity, expertise and perceived effortlessness in what you do. It takes unwavering commitment and years of practice, but having the foresight to prepare for the moment when it really matters will absolutely pay dividends. Tenet #3: Start a Movement 🌊 Most would say that leading change is about having a vision and the conviction to see it through. I say that leading change is about winning hearts and minds, one at a time, until you reach a tipping point when that once crazy view of the future-state becomes both believable and desirable. Derek Sivers' 2010 TED Talk, 'First Follower: Leadership Lessons From a Dancing Guy' has inspired me since I first saw it just after its release. It's a masterclass in human thinking and behavior told in a relatable and humorous way. It isn't just the 'lone nut' who sticks out her/his neck, but the 'first followers' who lend credibility and normalcy to the thing that only just before had been the anti-pattern.  Start a Movement by finding and nurturing your first followers! I recently ran into this image, which made me stop and reflect on it. It is one of the most powerful images I have seen in a while. This is so true. We think that we have to be at our peak every day, but the reality is that that is very hard to achieve. Even the best ones in their field are not 100% every day; they acknowledge that they embrace it, they still show up, they still perform, and regardless of the result, they know that they have to show up again tomorrow or to the next meeting, or the next play. I apply that particularly when I play Padel. In fact, a couple of months ago, I started telling myself loud, "Show up" on crucial points, and generally speaking, it has worked out well for me as I do show up and, whether I win the point or not, I play a good point when it matters most. The same thing goes with my day. Sometimes I feel like "I don't have it today," and that's when I rely on my wife, my biggest supporter, who talks me into showing up and doing my best, and moving on, or as Tony Horton would say, during P90X sessions "do your best, and forget the rest." I would also tell my team clearly, "Folks, I am struggling today, and I need your help; I need to cruise behind you." That's something cyclists do; they rest while letting someone else lead the pack and set the pace while they just cruise along. Show up. Take a deep breath and face the next meeting, the next project, the next call, the next gym session, the next healthy meal. There's no way around it. C. #padel #discipline #leadership #growth

Consistency is the key When you start a new habit and after a few days you suddenly realize that you are no longer following it. This is what is being inconsistent, but the real question is how you can become consistent. I have been following a simple trick to stay consistent for the last few days. When you start a new habit let's say for example -joining the gym. You then have to analyze the hardest part of going to the gym. For me, the hardest part was getting up and reaching the gym. It is not hard to work every day, the hardest part is reaching there and showing up and this is why showing up somewhere makes much difference. This is the part which is where you need to push yourself because you are sure that once you reach the gym you are going to work out and stick to your habit and that is what gets you to be consistent. So make sure you push yourself through this toughest part. Every time you think of giving up just think of crossing the hardest part and you are already halfway there. Say to yourself that once you are through the first step you can become consistent and reach your goals. 🙂 #consistencyiskey #consistency #showingup

Feeling like you're winning in life is sometimes as simple as just maintaining momentum. 🌟 Today, I was all set for the 7am class at my brother's gym, HARAKA . 🏋️♂️ I was showered and dressed in my gym gear whilst on the early Friday morning Squirrel team meeting. 🐿️ The meeting ran longer than expected, which meant I missed the class and had a decision to make. 🤔 From a young age, being in professional rugby environments taught me to set standards and stick to them. Whether it's completing every rep at the gym, nailing my diet, getting to bed on time, or staying hydrated, the environment always meant you had to execute. 💪🥗💧 However, since stopping playing, the lack of accountability has sometimes led to frustration when I don't do what I say I will. It can potentially spiral for days. 😣 As I've got older, I have tried to adopt the "what's next" mentality Daniel Carter (one of the most famous All Black's ever) talked about on the High Performance podcast. When he use to make a mistake on the field, he'd tap his leg to trigger a "what's next" response. 🏉🔄 So today, I put on my trainers and went for a 20-minute run. 👟 Was it as good as the planned weights and conditioning session at the gym? Absolutely not. ❌ But it gave me momentum for tomorrow. That's what I think it takes to feel like you're winning. Not every day is a home run; sometimes it's just about getting to first base. ⚾ And don't think the people we admire nail it every day. Here's a look at how the greatest F1 driver of all time, Lewis Hamilton, gets ready for a race: Hamilton has been said to have a "compulsive need to win." Channeling that competitiveness into peak performance each race starts before the gun goes off. Here's how he aims to feel before competing: - Calm - Centered - Grateful - Loose Here's how he does it. 1. Music Music is a powerful tool to help us get focused, excited, or calm. Hamilton uses music to get himself in the right mindset. Faster music = increased energy Slower music = lower energy He finds what he needs and gets it going. 2. Stretching The mind-body connection is powerful. If you help loosen up the body, and tune in to how it feels, he can help you be present, calm, and loose. Hamilton uses this tool to start getting centered before the media frenzy. Research shows that stretching can lead to "mental quiet" and to decrease muscle tension. That's the "calming" state he's looking for before entering the thick of the race. 3. Get Present There are a variety of ways to get here, so Hamilton focuses on "calming" his heart rate down. The best tools to use here: - Mindfulness - Yoga - Breathwork 4. Be Grateful Finally, before he goes to compete, he reminds himself of the opportunity. He says: "Wow. This is my dream. This is what I always wanted to do, so I'm going to go out there and give it everything." This attitude of gratitude allows him to embrace the challenge. The performance is now an opportunity to do what he loves. Not something that determines his worth as a person or makes or breaks his year. This more adaptive framing allows him to give his all, without fear of failure. We can all use techniques like this to perform better. Figure out how you want to feel during a performance, and figure out how you need to feel before to be there. Then, figure out what you need to do pre-performace to be ready. A simple pre-performance routine works wonders.

Forced to sleep in a noisy hotel room the night before the race of your life? It might sound unlikely, but it happens to elite athletes more than you think. As the University of Colorado Boulder Buffaloes prepared for the 1998 NCAA Championships, star runner Adam Goucher faced an unexpected challenge he hadn't trained for: loud city noises outside his hotel room. Despite being in peak physical condition, Goucher's sleep was disrupted by partygoers enjoying the nightlife until 2AM the night before the big race in Lawrence, KS In Chris Lear's book "Running with the Buffaloes," he highlights Goucher's experience and how even minor disturbances can have a significant impact on physical and mental readiness. Rest and recovery are just as crucial as training— without quality sleep, even the best athletes can be thrown off their game when it counts the most. Goucher resorted to stuffing his ears with toilet paper to try and drown out the noise from the street below, wishing he had ear plugs on hand. While his 100+ mile weeks had trained his body for the rigors of the 10k championship race, he was unprepared with tools to combat disruptions to his pre-race sleep environment.
