Great masterclass! Over your Easter eggs take time to watch. I get 4 CVs a day asking me how to get into Business Aviation and asking career advice: for both Super Yachting and Business Aviation the rule is always be learning, rule two is network, rule three is refer to rule one and two again. Rince repeat. 16 hours a day.
There’s a plethora of information out there and bravo to the Corporate Jet ✈️ Investor team for putting this master class out there for free. Yes it’s Free! And yes the quality is great. And yes three more installments to come.
Also note to hungry applicants for every 50 CVs asking for a Marketing Job, I only get one Accounting or one Engineering CV! Today for example we have two lawyer vacancies! So keep sending those CVs in! I also know of two yacht technical vacancies, two broker vacancies at client firms.
Folks the truth is in Yachting and aviation the ratio of jobs is the other way around. The reality is the Marketing divisions of companies are much smaller than the Engineering, Technical IT, Finance Sales, Maintenance and Legal functions. Even for brokerage there will be 5 to 30 times more brokers than marketing jobs.
Aviation needs Lawyers, Accountants, Tax specialists, Engineers, IT, Tech, Pilots and Stewardesses ground staff, controllers and yes brokers. There are 25000 jets out there growing at plus 5% new builds and retirements too.
Just think three years to built it, years to design it, and a product that needs maintenance for 30 years. Even at end of life they are parted out and parts reconditioned. The manufacturers have today thousands of jobs vacant.
And planes take millions to run, means millions to account for, one I used to look after $4 million dollars a year. Lots of contracts, clauses and negotiations.
There are 50 of those jobs for every one marketing job.
So if, like my daughter and applying for university this month, aim for the top finance or Law School, (she’s applying for finance and Banking in Paris, 50 % of biz jets are financed) invest in some flight hours or sign up for an aeronautical engineering job, and if you like Marketing and are determined to land that Top Marketing Job consider honing negotiation skills, try to get an internship at a brokerage firm, get some IT skills, statistics, big data, online skills, AI skills because Business Jet Marketing is developing faster than the Jets fly!
We are in the business of business aviation and as this US Attorney says in the Masterclass step one is to employ an aviation savvy CPA! Tax is Taxing!
Last tip think outside the box, look at the business aviation supply chain. There are really great jobs in Fueling, banking, Hangaring, Chartering, Cleaning, Scheduling and Parts supply of Jets.
Each jet in Europe has 209 linked jobs supporting it! There’s a place for you there! and there’s always time to sign up to a flying school.
