"We have an internal recruiting team." I hear this a lot from hiring managers I offer my services to. While I respect the role of internal recruiting teams, in most cases they're not cybersecurity industry specialists. As such, they may be limited in their effectiveness in recruiting for security roles. It takes DEEP and BROAD security industry knowledge to be truly effective in recruiting security folks. Learning all of the acronyms in the field takes years of experience and they're always changing... Security professionals have their own motivators, unique skillsets, and clusters of intangible traits not present in any other profession. So do you want the absolute best hire for your open role, or do you just want to put a butt in a seat? I know which one I'd prefer.

Building stuff that works, and fixing stuff that doesn't. Providing technology resources to enable people and Agile teams to be successful and the business to drive revenue. Proven IT leader for rapidly growing startups.
I've said this quote many times myself, but working for software companies in the security industry, some of the great internal recruiters that I've worked with like Rachel Ko were awesome at finding really good IT and operational security candidates. But my hires had a lot of overlap with our core business and recruiting strength. If I had worked for 200-person law firm instead of a security company, I'd expect my experience with internal recruiting to be a lot less successful. My view on external recruiters aligns with my view on IT/Security professional services. I ask (myself, generally) some questions: Do we have the skills in-house? If not, do we have someone that can learn the skills adequately in the time-frame need and has the time to use them? If not, will we need the skills in-house full-time? If not, are there other additional skills that a new headcount could have that we do need full-time? If not, then it makes sense to contract the skills instead of hiring them. For me, this usually means paying for consultants to build/install/configure something, and sometimes, but less often, maintain/operate/monitor it.

President & Recruiter - Search, identify and secure the best security, fire, low-voltage candidates to conquer our clients staffing needs
Identifying the right candidate for a job is a critical time, and so is the candidate's approach. It's not a game; it's a strategic process. Yet, some candidates still want to wait a day or two to respond to a hiring manager's call or email because they "don't want to appear desperate." Let me tell you, that's not being strategic. It's just plain stupid. When a potential new client calls, do you wait to respond? No! So why would you do it when pursuing a new opportunity? Windows of opportunity open and close, and you don't want to be left out. Respond to the call. #hiring #hiringnow #recruitingtips #securityintegration #fire #fireprotection #firealarm #av #bas #lowvoltage

Know What You Seek I've always found this paramount, knowing precisely what you're seeking. An unclear job advert is like navigating without a map, leading to insecurity and potential mismatches. At worst, the perfect candidate can seem elusive. 🕵️♂️ Know your market, understand the landscape, and define your needs clearly. This not only attracts the right talent but ensures a smoother hiring process. 📧 Davis.kyambadde@pursuu.co.uk 📞 020 8050 6325 #hiring #clarity #hiring #know #your #market #recruitment #cybersecurity #embedded #engineer #pursuu

Hiring isn't just about filling positions; it's about building futures. Ever looked at a job description and thought, Wow, I'm perfect for this, but never heard back after submitting an application? Chances are, your resume didn't stand out from the pool of applicants. Or maybe you aced the interview but didn't get the job. As recruiters in government contracting, we have an additional layer of complexity - security clearances. But whether it's a defense contractor or a civilian agency, hiring is more than just finding someone with the right skills and clearance level. It's about identifying people who will thrive in our unique environment. Your future doesn't depend on matching keywords in a job description – it lies in creating meaningful connections that highlight your unique strengths and potential. Let’s go beyond simply filling roles. Let’s create futures!
