Did you know it takes just 30 minutes of pressure on one part of the body to cause a pressure injury? 🤯 Pressure injuries (aka bed sores) are the result of skin damage caused by continued pressure or shear force on any part of the body. The pressure can come from lying in bed or sitting without changing position for a long period of time. If caught early, they can be prevented. If left untreated, severe pressure injuries may require months to heal, which can develop into scar tissue and risk causing further injury. To help medical professionals enhance their ability to assess pressure injuries, Clinical Excellence Queensland (CEQ) has developed an online training package. CEQ is the department's lead in driving measurable improvements in patient care across the system—the team partners with our hospitals, clinicians and consumers to improve patient care across the state. A great day in the life of acute care PT for me: 7am-8am: chart review and prep 8am-12pm: rounds, evaluations, treatments, and documentation 12pm-1pm: lunch, sometimes a quick lunch, rarely no lunch - this is important! 1pm-3pm: 1-2 more treatment sessions, hospital safety projects, mentoring (being a mentor and meeting with my mentors) 330pm: wrap up and head home When I stick to this I offer the most value to my patients and regulate my ability throughout the entire day. Lesson: build a system that works for you, then have a system to change it as you need.
