Recipes for Success with Samara Starkman Samara’s number one indicator for hiring an individual in the privacy sector is ‘Passion’. The willingness to learn and be inquisitive, she adds having practical experience can always add value. Every company, every recruiter, every head-hunter have one thing in common which is they are all different and looking for different skills and experiences. Whether this be a new business venture, hiring an employee or promoting an individual within a company. There are many aspiring privacy professionals who are passionate about privacy, myself included. However, I believe being passionate and interested in a subject area doesn’t always necessarily land you a job role you really want. - Gaining Practical Experience - Volunteering for roles within your local community - Attending events/conferences around Privacy can make you stand out from the crowd and give you a better chance of landing that dream role you have always wanted. Jamal Ahmed who is the CEO of Kazient Privacy Experts | Data Protection Made Easy Peasy highlighted he would look for 3 things in an individual if he was to hire someone which would be: Having a positive attitude, Being confident and competent, Being a cultural fit. I would be interested to know, if you had to select one skill that you would have to hire someone on what would that skill be and why ❓

Hello Network! I am hiring for the following positions: - 1x Senior Security Engineer - 1x Identity Engineer - 1x Privacy and Data Officer - 1x Head of / Senior Manager Information Security GRC and Assurance Please email me if you are interested, or if you know of someone. It's important for you to use the subject of [Senior Security Engineer] or [Identity engineer] or [Privacy and Data Officer] or [GRC Leader] as there will be a recruitment rule that I look at using those subject titles. If you don't include the above, it may be missed. That's on you! If you or a forward uses a different subject, that's too bad. The Pro? You don't have to complete a 30minute recruitment process. The Con? You just have to be smart enough to follow a simple direction. :) Hint #1: If you can't work out my email (you have permission to email me with the subject tag I've suggested) , maybe you should consider a field outside of cybersecurity. AKA - messaging me your resume on LinkedIn is an auto-fail No recruiters. No internationals (preferably). It's a Melbourne based role, based in Preston. I'm particularly keen on gender balancing, so if you are a women in cybersecurity please do consider applying. AWSN members will get warm treatment. There will be more roles in the future, so if not one of these 4...there will be more later in the year. I look forward to your interest. :)

What do deepfakes have to do with hiring? In 2022 an FBI alert warned of “an increase in complaints reporting the use of deepfakes and stolen Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to apply for a variety of remote work and work-at-home positions.” And why might people be doing this? I mean, other than the obvious – namely, that some folks clearly weren’t held enough as babies? In essence, they are doing it in order to be allowed employee-level access to an organization’s proprietary information and digital networks. At a time when a high proportion of jobs are still carried out (and interviewed for) on a remote basis, it’s entirely possible to use deepfakes to gain the full privileges of an employee without ever setting foot inside an office or interacting in person with a colleague. What are your thoughts on watching out for this unexpected security risk? #hiring #recruiting #psp
