Making connections and building your network is important. I have been told that who knows how many times and I do believe it. However, I have become more hesitant to reach out to connections these days. Nerves are one factor, but the main one is that none of them have become that "golden ticket" to getting hired for a job. I don't expect them to be, but I also expect those connections' referrals to get me pretty far in the interview process. So, to see them not even get me a single interview or know of any way to help me feels like countless broken promises. And I'm so tired of broken promises. I'm tired of feeling like people failing me after getting my hopes up no matter how good their intentions were. Even so, I want to keep believing in my network and my connections.
