Do you lie when questioned about something you don't have an answer for? Lying breaks trust. Can't answer a question? Own it. There's nothing more charismatic than somebody who admits they don't know it all. For example, you can say: "That’s a great question that I don’t have an answer for. After our conversation, I’ll do some digging to find you the answer, and if that fails, I’ll introduce you to the right person who can.” Own your truth. Stay within your area of expertise. Become the expert in finding the expert. Authentic communication is how you build meaningful relationships for life.

Have you ever been bubbling with excitement to share an idea, only to receive a brisk "Yeah, yeah, I know" in response? It's a bit deflating, isn't it? 🔸 Remember, the art of communication is not just about imparting what we know but also about how we make others feel heard. When someone shares an idea with you, even if it's familiar territory, try to avoid responding with the "I know it all" vibe. It will eventually make people not want to talk to you. 🔸 Instead of the reflexive "Yeah, I know," amplify their enthusiasm. A response like "Oh, absolutely!" or "Yes, and did you know...?" or even "I know, right?" injects energy into the conversation and shows you're truly engaged. 🔸 The joy of sharing knowledge is about connection as much as it is about information. Effective communication is a priority for every organization and team. It is also a great challenge. Communicating with intention, purpose, and skill requires a great deal of diligence. Our tongues can be unpredictable and impulsive. If we do not discipline the way we communicate, we can speak words that help us connect and collaborate with others, or we can speak words that cause confusion or even conflict. It is vitally important to understand that disciplined communication means a great deal more than just “don’t use harsh and abrasive language.” It includes those prohibitions, yes, but the intent of effective communication is much broader and deeper—our speaking should be wise, skillful, and powerful.
