Discussing strategies to help businesses scale up and providing the right support is essential for driving economic growth and creating more jobs. The Woodland Trust in London today... There is no life without wildlife... Human activities have caused the world's wildlife populations to plummet by more than two-thirds in the last 50 years, according to a recent report from the World Wildlife Fund. The decline is happening at an unprecedented rate, the report warns, and it threatens human life as well. "The findings are clear," the report states. "Our relationship with nature is broken." The Living Planet Report 2020 report drew on wildlife monitoring of more than 4,300 different vertebrate species - mammals, fish, birds and amphibians - from around the world. It found that population sizes for those monitored species declined by an average of 68 percent from 1970 to 2016. See report: https://lnkd.in/ekzqEWeA
📢 Today 60,000 people marched through London to parliament to direct a powerful message to all the UK’s political parties – that they must #RestoreNatureNow. 🌳 The march is thought to be the biggest public demonstration in the #GeneralElection run-up and shows the strength of public opinion on the need for stronger political action to tackle the nature and climate crisis. 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehpm46zb

In the current #political climate, the need for action has never been more pressing. Now is the perfect moment to approach all political parties with a call to adopt an apolitical, cross-party stance on key recommendations for legislation. As we near the formation of new #government programs, it’s essential that parties commit to including these recommendations in their Programs for Government. This approach transcends party lines and focuses on the collective good, ensuring that important #legislative changes are prioritized and acted upon. In an era where collaboration is crucial, this commitment can pave the way for impactful and lasting progress. News reports today show we've set two new climate change records. 1) March 2024 was the 10th consecutive month to raise a heat record 2) March 2024 was the 12th consecutive month with a record high ocean temperature measured In much more positive news, we've also seen another first today. The European Court of Human Rights has ruled in favour of a group of Swiss women who argued that inadequate efforts to combat climate change by their government put them at risk of dying during heatwaves. This case has the potential to have future implications across Europe and for accountability more generally for the impacts of climate change. Definitely worth a read! https://lnkd.in/gEh2AjMt

The Business of Law | Leadership Coaching | Partnership Dispute Mediation | Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators
The UK needs to justify its place on the world climate leadership stage. After nearly 30 years of climate diplomacy through the COP framework, an acceptance, finally, in some of the most unlikely quarters, that the science is broadly right and what seems like a supranational willingness to at least talk about moving away from a fossil fuel based global economy, the stage is set for some real and practical global leadership. The UK needs to stand above party politics and short term electoral pressures in the year ahead, get its house in order and use the credibility that will give to remain a sophisticated and authentic advocate in addressing the world’s toughest challenges. It is impossible to compartmentalise inequality and international development, climate change, biodiversity loss, the rule of law, national security and peace in 2024. The UK has a place at the table, one of the few tables at which this small nation can still show global leadership. I like the idea of a global manifesto and commend ClientEarth on its work developing a specific agenda for the UK itself.
