We're shining the #SolutionSpotlight on American Forests' Tree Equity Score! American Forests—a member of the Extreme Heat Resilience Alliance (EHRA)—protects forests and ensures they are resilient to the impacts of climate change. To do this, American Forests lead a range of initiatives focused on both protection and reforestation. One of these is the Tree Equity Score—a tool that measures how the benefits of urban tree canopies are distributed. On the platform, policymakers and citizens can find their neighborhood's score and make data-driven plans to expand canopies and better protect the communities exposed to the impacts of extreme heat and climate change. Explore the platform and learn how resources like this can advance environmental justice: https://bit.ly/47H0IZw

Introducing California's Trailblazing Report on Climate Resilience in California’s state parks! For over a year, we've been hard at work with the latest climate research to inform a comprehensive report on climate resilience in California's state parks. Collaborating with our team, partners, and conservation experts, we delved into the impacts of climate change on state parks and explored strategies to protect them. The result? Building a Climate-Resilient California State Park System: Preserving Parks for Future Generations. The report not only underscores the severity of the climate crisis but also illuminates actionable solutions. Please join us in exploring and advocating for more climate-resilient state parks. Together, let's ensure these treasured parklands endure for generations to come. READ THE FULL REPORT HERE: 🔗 calparks.org/climatereport.

🌿 Thrilled to share a milestone moment! 🌍 As we continue to witness the impacts of climate change, it's become more apparent than ever that our beloved California state parks need to be resilient to weather the storms of tomorrow. 📈 I'm immensely proud to have contributed to a groundbreaking report from California State Parks Foundation by Emily Doyle, PhD, Randy Widera, and Rachel Norton that charts a roadmap for building climate resilience in our state parks. This isn't just about protecting natural beauty; it's about safeguarding habitats, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring these spaces remain accessible and enjoyable for generations to come. 🌞 Our parks aren't just places for recreation — they're vital ecosystems that are crucial in mitigating climate change and providing refuge for countless species. By prioritizing resilience, we're not only protecting our parks; we're investing in the future health of our planet. calparks.org/climatereport 🌱 Let's continue to champion initiatives that prioritize sustainability, conservation, and adaptation. Together, we can ensure that our state parks remain treasures for all to enjoy, today and for centuries to come. Thank you Parks California, Sempervirens Fund, Save the Redwoods League, California Tahoe Conservancy, Climate Resolve, and Central Coast State Parks Association (CCSPA) for your valuable input. #CalParksClimateReport #climatechange #climateaction

Experts at a recent Earth Day forum highlighted the urgent need to prepare our shoreline for the impacts of climate change. Janet Williams, Conservation Commission Chair and Clerk for the Climate Collaborative, and Natural Resources Director Greg Berman emphasized community efforts, data-driven projections and nature-based solutions to address rising sea levels and powerful storms. “Climate change is not only a motivator to action, it also opens opportunities,” said Williams. TAKE ACTION NOW! ✅ Stay Informed and Engaged: Follow local and state initiatives on coastal resilience. ✅ Support Nature-Based Solutions: Advocate for and participate in shoreline vegetation projects. ✅ Promote Adaptive Management: Encourage the use of innovative, flexible approaches to coastal protection. ✅ Push for Regulatory Change: Support common sense bylaw changes and collaborative regional efforts to strengthen coastal regulations. Together, we can protect our shoreline for future generations. Read a recap of the Earth Day forum here: https://bit.ly/4bywb20

Coastal Quest has been awarded 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 (CSCI) for two of our partner projects: The City of East Palo Alto, California & the Tree Canopy Pilot Project led by Rise South City in South San Francisco. We are proud to be the only group selected on the West Coast to support two projects! The CSCI is designed to help communities in need accelerate their climate resilience plans & projects. They’re currently offering a searchable registry of certified adaptation professionals (like Coastal Quest!), training & support, as well as other resources. Get to know them & join their mailing list at ClimateSmartCommunity.org. More on our two partner projects ⬇️ 🌊 City of East Palo Alto: This redlined community in the Bay Area of California is facing challenges related to a changing climate, including sunny day flooding from rising seas, overland flooding from extreme precipitation events, & poor air quality from more frequent & intense wildfires. A $115K grant will enable the City of East Palo Alto, Climate Resilient Communities, & Coastal Quest to prioritize the voices of historically underrepresented residents through multilingual community workshops, surveys, & focus groups. The community concerns & priorities collaboratively identified through these activities will be the foundation for the City’s new Environmental Justice Element & updated Safety Element of the city’s General Plan–a guiding policy vision for the next 8+ years of climate resilience & environmental, social, & racial justice. 🌊 City of South San Francisco: The Tree Canopy Pilot Project is a collaborative climate resilience effort led by our fiscally sponsored project, Rise South City, Coastal Quest, & the City of South San Francisco that aims to provide frontline communities with access to climate resilience education & relief from urban heat through the implementation of part of the city’s Urban Forest Master Plan (2020). Thanks to this award of $95K, trees will be planted to mitigate urban heat & combat air pollution, two major climate-related issues facing frontline communities across South San Francisco. The community engagement & education portion of this project will bridge the gap between frontline communities & the city to facilitate tree planting where it is most needed. For inquiries on both of these projects, please contact Project Manager, Emma Koeze at Emma.Koeze@coastal-quest.org.

Ever wonder how a big idea turns into real action? Here’s how bipartisan collaboration helped secure $100 million annually for reforestation (a Natural Climate Solution)—without raising taxes. In 2018, the U.S. Forest Service faced a crisis: millions of acres of National Forests were deforested by wildfires and other disturbances. Recognizing the urgency, Alix and her colleagues championed the REPLANT Act, securing $100 million annually for reforestation, thanks to a collaborative and bipartisan approach. “This is a story of how you go from a great idea that you don’t know how to do, and turn it into something bipartisan,” said Alexandra A. Murdoch, Esq., Senior Policy Advisor at The Nature Conservancy, during our #ClimateWeekNYC event. Curious how they accomplished this? 🔗 Read the full story and see how Natural Climate Solutions can unite diverse groups around shared benefits, making it a powerful tool for addressing climate change in a way that garners widespread support: https://lnkd.in/g7uvbgnw #NaturalClimateSolutions #REPLANTAct #ClimateAction
