It seems that #Hydrogen startups and projects have been one fashionable way for investors to lose money in recent years. It happens... when you make investment decisions based on hype and government announcements, and when you think you are smarter than the laws of #physics. On the other hand, if you are looking to solve #climate problems and you can settle for safe and stable returns, you could always invest in #solarthermal companies and projects.

Welcome to the Planet A Ventures family, Malte Feucht, Paul Teufel and Steffen Garbe! Thrilled to share our investment in Phlair as they announce €14.5m seed funding to deliver low-cost next-generation CO₂ capture, at scale. 🏭 The problem: To give us a chance of limiting global warming <1.5C or even <2C means that (as well as massively cutting emissions) we have to remove ~500-900 bn tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere before 2100. We’ve long been excited by DAC’s potential to eliminate billions of tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere - and help bring global emissions back within our planet’s boundaries. However, high costs, energy consumption, manufacturability and low-tech readiness levels (TRL) have prevented deployment of earlier generations of #DAC at scale (and us from investing before now). 💡 Meet Phlair: At Planet A Ventures, we’ve been actively looking for solutions that address these key scaling challenges. In Phlair, we finally found what we’d been looking for. The team’s first-of-a-kind hydrolyzer-based DAC solution uses off-the-shelf components and is compatible with renewables as it truly runs on intermittent renewables without almost any additional battery storage. Besides, it has the ability to scale through mass manufacturing by banking on existing supply chains, which all leads to ultra low cost and is compatible with the intermittent nature of renewable sources. Huge. Fantastic to invest alongside Extantia Capital, Verve Ventures, Atlantic Labs, Counteract and UnternehmerTUM. And very much looking forward to our close collaboration, Torben Schreiter, Carlota Ochoa Neven Du Mont, Ruben Schultz, Andrew Shebbeare and all others! 👀 Read more in TechCrunch: https://lnkd.in/d3YdzKkr Watch out for our deep dive, outlining our take on DAC next week!

Welcome to the Planet A Ventures family, Malte, Paul and Steffen! We're very excited to share our investment in Phlair as they announce €14.5m seed funding to deliver low-cost next-generation CO₂ capture, at scale. 🏭 To give us a chance of limiting global warming by <1.5C or even <2C, alongside a step-change in emissions we have to remove ~500-900 BILLION tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere before 2100. We’ve long been excited by DAC’s potential to do just that - we believe that it has an important role to play in bringing global emissions back within our planet’s boundaries. However - high costs, energy consumption, manufacturability and low-tech readiness levels (TRL) have prevented deployment of earlier generations of #DAC at scale. 💎 Meet Phlair Phlair's first-of-a-kind hydrolyzer technology has the potential to deliver truly scaleable DAC, at a levelised cost-of-capture (LCoC) low enough to break through cost targets set forward by organisations like the International Energy Agency (IEA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and other climate-focused institutions. 💡 Their product is: • Energy efficient - through innovative engineering and novel science, Phair's technology represents a step-change in energy demand per tonne CO₂. • Scaleable - using off-the-shelf components, mature technology and established supply chains. • Compatible with renewables - the system can adapt to a fluctuating base load, which also enables utilisation as a curtailment avoidance tool. 💪 Delivering all this - a multi-disciplinary power house of a team, who have been a pleasure to work with since we first met. Fantastic to invest alongside Extantia, Verve Ventures, Atlantic Labs, Counteract and UnternehmerTUM. And very much looking forward to our close collaboration, Torben, Carlota, Ruben, Andrew and all others! 🖥 Read more in TechCrunch, and watch out for our deep dive outlining our take on DAC coming soon!

This final day on the countdown to #Davos2024, we honour the community served by Mandulis Energy 's mini-grid in Got-Ngur village, who have made the most of the affordable, reliable & sustainable, utility quality electricity that we provide, to completely transform their lives & livelihoods in just a couple of years. In this video, Community members share stories of the impact of rural access to electricity at grid parity. Farmer & cinema hall entrepreneur Dennis Okello, farmer & school teacher Helen Nyamungu, & farmer, tailor & hairdresser Dennis Opio, share how access to sustainable energy has transformed their businesses and quality of life. In their own words: “We’re enjoying”... “It has changed, so much, the life of this community.” We're grateful to them, and to every one of the amazing farmers in our ecosystem, for their patience, empathy & encouragement, & for being the true champions at the forefront of climate resilience, mitigation, decarbonization & the transition to net zero Joining the #WEF2024 UpLink - World Economic Forum 's fantastic delegation of Top Innovators attending the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos this year, gives us the awesome opportunity and a global platform, to present Mandulis Energy's proven #NaturePositive #CircularEconomy #REPARLE hybrid approach to #BECCS, #BiCRS, & high quality #Biochar-based #CarbonRemovals; which concurrently delivers #Sustainable, #affordable, & #Reliable #Energyaccess, #CleanCooking & #SoilFertility. We look forward to connecting at #WEF2024 to discuss #CarbonRemovals, #CDR, #SustainableEnergy, #MiniGrids, #EnergyAccess & #CleanCooking, to explore synergies to further scale our impact in rural farming communities across the world. #RebuildingTrust #PoweringHope 🐘🌾🍀🌻🕊 Lisa Satolli John Dutton Andrej Kirn Accenture Gabriella Oken Wilbur The Circulars Thomas Liu Dutch Fund for Climate and Development Alex Theran Energy Catalyst (an Innovate UK programme) Howard Piwang Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development EEP Africa Lumansi Raymond Climate Change Department (CCD) Unreasonable

This week's 'Impact Startups to Watch' are working on direct air capture technologies within climate tech. In the fight against climate change, innovative startups are developing novel technologies to capture carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere. We collected five impact startups that are making significant strides in direct air capture (DAC) solutions: CarpeCarbon's new Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology uses only renewable energy to remove large amounts of CO2. Parallel Carbon combines Direct Air Capture and Water Electrolysis to remove carbon from the atmosphere and produce clean hydrogen. Tierra-Foods uses oxalogenic plants to capture atmospheric CO2 and turn it into minerals in the soil. ReCarbn energy-efficient Direct Air Capture technology uses a circulating solid sorbent mechanism to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Ucaneo's Direct Air Capture technology mimics the human lungs to remove carbon dioxide from the air. #impactentrepreneurship #climatetech #dac
