Focus on improving core systems and patient empowerment in new digital strategy from Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS FT Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust has published its new digital strategy, highlighting priorities around utilising technology to improve core clinical systems, empowering patients, advancing the use of information, promoting seamless system-wide working, improving efficiency, and developing safe and secure systems. The new strategy comes as CNTW has earned recognition as an accredited Global Digital Exemplar by NHS England, and achieved a HIMSS Level 5 standard of digital maturity. It sets out actions which will be taken over the next 18 months, to advance the trust’s progress in each of the identified priority areas. On improving core clinical systems, the strategy highlights the “significant opportunity” to free up clinical time by making information easier to record and easier to find when needed. Over the next 18 months, the trust plans to carry out an options appraisal of current core clinical systems to build an understanding of “what the wider market can offer in the medium to long term”, as well as upgrading RiO 23 to improve usability and functionality, continuing ePrescribing roll-out across community services, and continuing to develop the Great North Care Record to promote information sharing. Driving strategic and operational success through expert navigation of policy, stakeholder engagement, executive decisionmakers, and media dynamics.
It bears repeating: expanding access to remote maternal healthcare is critical to reducing the maternal health crisis in our country. That's why it is great to see the Florida Senate advance legislation expanding the successful maternal health telehealth pilot to all Florida counties. This program includes increased access to remote patient monitoring. Recent testimony from the Florida Department of Health highlighted examples of conditions that we diagnosed more quickly because of telehealth available through this program. It is encouraging that more and mores states are recognizing the power of innovative medical technology, like remote patient monitoring, in improving outcomes for moms and babies. https://lnkd.in/eC89H9bQ #innovation #medtech #maternalhealth #remotepatientmonitoring #florida #maternalhealthcare #medicaltechnology #patientsfirst

I don't post often. But, I really would like for people to be aware of an article highlighting the profound problem in primary care. To my colleagues that are deep in it, nothing in this article is new. At all. But, what is here is very well represented, in my opinion. To my colleagues that aren't deep in the front lines of primary care, then I suggest you read this with open eyes, and open mind, and an open heart. This really has reached a point of crisis. I'm in my 25th year of doing what I do. As such, I've gotten to directly experience the changes from the 'old' world of primary care of doing my own hospital work, including ICU, and full time clinic -- long hours, lots of joy and some frustration -- to this 'new' world that is truly untenable. Most of today's primary care is broken. It doesn't work well for the patients we are privileged to serve, nor the staff work within it, nor the providers who struggle to deliver, nor the clinics/companies who struggle to maintain financial solvency. I'm privileged to serve in a leadership role, but still my same basic focus: how do we deliver exceptional primary care with a special focus on underserved populations. Sadly, in this world now, because of how the care models and systems are organized, most patients are now underserved. Underserved means poor access, poor experience of care, insufficient quality, and high total costs. To my frontline primary care colleagues today, thank you for continuing to show up every day. Despite the overload and at times literally impossible load, you keep showing up. Please keep showing up. To my leadership and policy colleagues...we must understand that this system is fundamentally broken. It is not a little bit broken. It is not within range of 'tweaking' a little bit here or a little bit there. We must find a different way. To my colleagues and some personal friends in Walmart Health (Walmart), Oak Street Health (now CVS), VillageMD (Walgreens), your large corporations have discovered what we know very well: primary care is really, really hard. To my colleagues in other smaller startups and health systems and privately, physician-owned clinics (yes, they still exist), thank you for keeping on. Please share this paper as a conversation starter (or re-starter). In my view, it is truly spot on. To the authors, of whom I don't think I've ever met, thank you. https://lnkd.in/gbmyGXTW

Reminder: Our Quarterly Meeting will be TOMORROW! ⏰ Don't miss the opportunity to participate! We value your feedback! You are invited to attend the next session of the Mississippi Telehealth Quarterly Meeting, which will held on January 10, 2024 from noon - 1:30 p.m. Central. We invite anyone interested in telehealth implementation or best practices to join and participate. 📋Agenda ⭐Inpatient Teleneurology Consultation Service in a Rural Hospital Following Physician Shortage •Presenter: Dr. Shreyas Gangadhara, Associate Professor, UMMC Neurology •There is a significant disparity in access to specialty care in the United States. Moreover, specialists like neurologists tend to settle in urban areas. Audio-video consultations can bridge the gap in the availability of specialists and improve healthcare access. The University of Mississippi Medical Center collaborated with the South Central Regional Medical Center in implementing a hybrid care model among rural neurology inpatients in Laurel, Mississippi. We propose to outline the and present results thus far from our service, which aims to overcome the geographic barriers and disparities in neurology care as well as alleviate the inconvenience and stress associated with care-seeking behavior, mitigate challenges to transportation, and time constraints, while providing adequate quality care. ⭐Examining Delta Health Center's Increase in Telehealth Utilization •Presenter: Mary Grace Braxton LPN, Director of Telehealth Communications, DHC •Delta Health Center has recently increased its telehealth utilization from 3% to 16% by using both telehealth carts and direct communication tools. This session will explore the ways that Delta Health Center implemented and sustained this telehealth growth in their facility. 💸Cost Attendance is free for members. With the Specialist combines medical expertise with technological innovation. Trust in a solution created by doctors, for doctors, and revolutionize your approach to neurological care.
Federal policymakers have long sought to address primary care shortages, with increased funding and legislative efforts. However, mapping these shortages is challenging due to inconsistent data. Analyzing existing data reveals over 180 areas stuck on the shortage list for decades. While the number of licensed physicians has doubled since 1990, shortage areas persist despite federal funding efforts. These shortages are measured using doctor-to-population ratios, but this metric overlooks other healthcare professionals like nurse practitioners and physician assistants. State variations in identifying shortage areas contribute to the problem. For instance, Costilla County, Colorado, has been on the shortage list since 1978, despite overlooked local healthcare providers. Efforts to update shortage area definitions have faced challenges, prompting Colorado to develop its own criteria. Targeting resources to high-need communities is crucial, requiring improved methodologies and federal coordination. Addressing primary care shortages demands comprehensive strategies considering all healthcare professionals and accurate mapping of shortage areas. #primarycareshortages With the Specialist is a platform that may be part of the solution. This site combines artificial intelligence with a board certified neurologist to enhance neurological care in the primary care setting, bringing the neurology consult to you. The hope is this can help the existing primary care providers with their neurological patients. #withthespecialist #neurology #aiinhealthcare #innovation https://lnkd.in/gZiFgMDR https://lnkd.in/gExrwg2P
