Starting soon at #AIDS2024 ➡️ Treatment failure management in children – New Horizons Advancing Pediatric Care Collaborative The New Horizons (NH) Advancing Pediatric Care Collaborative was launched in 2014 by JANSSEN PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES OF Johnson & Johnson, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, national ministries of health and other international, national, and regional partners. NH was designed to support access to Darunavir and/or Etravirine donated by J&J as well as build healthcare capacity to manage pediatric treatment failure in children and adolescents. Ten years on we are celebrating NH and the successes, lessons learned, and tools developed through the collaborative. International AIDS Society

Longeveron’s Phase 2b clinical trial (ELPIS II) evaluating Lomecel-BTM in the rare pediatric disease Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) has achieved 70% enrollment with completion of enrollment targeted for the end of 2024. HLHS is a rare pediatric congenital heart birth defect in which the left ventricle (one of the pumping chambers of the heart) is either severely underdeveloped or missing. ELPIS II builds on the positive clinical results of ELPIS I, in which children in the trial experienced 100% transplant-free survival up to five years of age after receiving Lomecel-BTM compared to approximate 20% mortality rate observed from historical control data. The U.S. FDA has granted Lomecel-BTM Orphan Drug designation, Fast Track designation, and Rare Pediatric Disease designation for the treatment of HLHS. Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/efeCm3ge

As per WHO, about 𝟏𝟏𝟖.𝟓𝟒 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 blood donations are collected worldwide each year, with around 𝟒𝟎% of these coming from high-income countries. Every year on June 14, countries worldwide commemorate 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐲 (𝐖𝐁𝐃𝐃). This significant event serves a dual purpose: educating people about the critical need for safe blood and blood products and expressing gratitude to voluntary blood donors for their role in saving lives. The objective of WBDD is to emphasize the importance of regular blood donations and their role in maintaining effective health systems. The global theme for 2024 is ‘𝟐𝟎 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐬!’ This theme acknowledges the remarkable contributions of donors. Safe blood and blood products are crucial for medical treatments, surgeries, emergencies, and maternal care. In this regard, voluntary donors are essential in maintaining a reliable supply. Plasma, the liquid component making up about 𝟓𝟓% of blood volume, contains proteins, electrolytes, and other substances vital for coagulation, immunity, and nutrient transport. Moreover, it is used in treating patients with severe burns, trauma, shock, hemophilia, and immune deficiencies. Plasma-derived therapies include clotting factor concentrates, immunoglobulins, and albumin. World Blood Donor Day raises awareness about the need for both whole blood and plasma donations. Educating the public about the various blood components and their specific uses can encourage more people to donate, ensuring a wider range of donations and supporting essential medical treatments. This World Blood Donor Day, discover how blood plasma treats various conditions with our comprehensive report summary: https://lnkd.in/d3FWixW . . . Small changes can have a big impact! KHSC is one of the first hospitals in Canada to reduce the amount of blood collected for testing by switching to low-volume blood vials. Standard sample tubes can take around 3-6 milliliters of blood and, while that doesn’t sound like much, it can add up. A patient in the ICU could have as much as 27 milliliters of blood taken for testing alone in a single day. By switching to low-volume tubes, KHSC is able to reduce patient strain, the risk of blood transfusions and demand on donated blood products. Learn how: https://lnkd.in/g_rE9VY7
