International companies and organizations play a crucial role in opening doors for young graduates. By not always requiring prior experience, they can leverage the fresh skills and enthusiasm of these new market entrants. Often, a young graduate, with their recent education and familiarity with current technologies and methods, can bring innovative perspectives and effective solutions that rival those of more experienced employees. Offering opportunities to these young talents not only fosters diversity in ideas and approaches but also ensures a long-term investment in a dynamic and adaptable workforce. It's time to reassess recruitment criteria and recognize that motivation and the ability to learn quickly can sometimes surpass years of experience.

One of my highlights last week was to be on the panel discussion for NTU inaugural learning day. There were rich insights from the panelists, with Soon Joo Gog Chief SkillsFuture Officer of Singapore Skillsfuture, Seok Bin Ong CHRO, NTU and Dhilip Kumar Raju, Head of Staffing, Tata Consultancy on the panel moderated by 陈惠忠 陈惠忠 Phillip Tan from the Career Attachment Office. We shared some good insights on the employability trends and the skills for the future. Some key insights from the panelists ✳️ In the new world of work, people will need to take a multi-disciplinary approach in learning. For example, a HR person needs to understand data. A data scientist need to also have a good business perspective to understand what insights are they looking for ✳️ Show learning agility. If you have a new role in mind, show proactiveness and pick up the skills required before you go for the job interview. Employers want to see the drive and initiative from you. ✳️ The pace of change is accelerating. Shelf life of skills may be short. Individuals need to develop a meta cognitive thinking skills - the ability to connect the dots, identify patterns and bring fresh perspectives ✳️ Develop career lattice instead of climbing the corporate ladder. In the new world of work, there are multiple pathways to career success. Career need not be linear or binary. ✳️ IHLs could partner with industry to bring real world case studies for the students as their capstone projects to tap on their creativity and allow them to apply what they learn. There was so much rich insights from the session. The target audience was not the students. Instead it was a learning day for the faculty/professors in a whole of part effort to bridge academia with the industry to ensure graduates are future ready. A great initiative by the career office lead by Mr Pui Wah Loh PPA #Growth #newworldofwork #futureready #lifelonglearning

🎓 Attracting Top Talent in Higher Education 🎓 The higher education sector is more competitive than ever. Universities and colleges are vying for the best minds to drive innovation and academic excellence. But what are the challenges and how can we overcome them? One major challenge is the increasing demand for specialised skills. With the rapid evolution of technology and interdisciplinary studies, institutions need experts who can bridge gaps and foster collaboration. To attract such talent, it's crucial to offer continuous professional development opportunities and a supportive environment that encourages research and innovation. Another hurdle is the global competition. Top talent is not confined to one region; they have opportunities worldwide. Offering competitive salaries and benefits is essential, but so is creating a culture that values diversity and inclusion. This not only attracts international talent but also enriches the academic community. Lastly, the reputation of the institution plays a significant role. Building a strong employer brand through transparent communication, showcasing success stories and engaging with alumni can make a huge difference. It's about creating a narrative that potential candidates want to be a part of. ❓ What strategies have you found effective in attracting top talent in higher education? Share your thoughts in the comments! 👇 #HigherEducation #TalentAcquisition #RecruitmentStrategies

Graduate employability skills required by employers are constantly shifting, and the latest (2024) QS Global Employer Survey data has some really interesting insights. University graduates are stepping into a world that demands not only academic qualifications but also an array of specific, transferable skills. The QS Global Employer Survey 2024 highlights that while technical skills and academic achievements remain important, employers increasingly prioritise skills that enable graduates to adapt, think critically, and communicate effectively. Among the surveyed employers, dissatisfaction was particularly pronounced in the areas of: problem solving, communication and resilience & flexibility/adaptability. These were in fact the top three graduate skills deficits in the APAC region. We have developed new microcredentials to teach students all three of these skills, to be showcased at the QS Quacquarelli Symonds HE Summit: APAC 2024 in Macau next month by Shelly Maller and myself. Read this new article about the survey's insights for the APAC region at https://lnkd.in/gUAB97bp #employability #transferableskills #graduatehire Edward Harcourt Jeroen Prinsen Jason Newman Jessica Turner
