🚢 In the news: “Everybody doing business with the US should feel concerned,” said Xeneta Chief Analyst Peter Sand following Tuesday’s election debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. The recent U.S. presidential debate left container shippers on edge, as the industry continues to face mounting pressures from economic uncertainty and global supply chain issues. Despite discussions on trade policies, key concerns such as inflation, regulatory changes, and port congestion were not fully addressed, leaving shippers with little reassurance about the future. With many awaiting clearer policy directions, the industry remains cautious about what lies ahead. 📰 Read the full story on Seatrade Maritime News: https://lnkd.in/ex6uhT_E #CMAShipping #Trade #Container

Insightful analysis of the impact of #Trump2.0 if he wins the upcoming #USpresidentialelections Two key takeaways: 1. Analysts like Lars Jensen predict a surge in import volumes if Trump wins the election, as importers rush to move goods before potential #tariffs, which could take effect by late January #2025. 2. As succinctly articulated by Peter Sand, #geopolitical disruptions, from trade wars to Red Sea conflicts, are increasingly harmful to #oceanfreight #supplychains. Shippers and freight forwarders thrive on stability, as uncertainty makes managing supply chain risks more difficult. This is why the maritime industry supports global trade and opposes tariffs or barriers. #US #presidentialelections #trade #protectionsim #containershipping #cnbc

TRADE ALERT- my latest take on the Trump Tariff Policy after yesterday's presidential debate. While I was at Intermodal Association of North America Expo I was speaking with logistics managers who were telling me if there is a Trump win they are expecting shippers to front load. WEll, if history's any guide we know what that means for freight rates. Hello transitory inflation. With the result of the 2024 Presidential Election only a day away, the impact to ocean and air freight shipping will soon be realised. Policy shifts could affect everything from trade agreements and tariffs to environmental regulations and infrastructure investments, shaping the future of supply chain resilience and cost structures globally. As Peter Sand, Xeneta Chief Analyst, noted back in September: “Raising barriers to trade is almost always a negative move. We saw the cost of shipping goods by ocean spike dramatically when Trump introduced tariffs back in 2018 and his latest proposals will simply be a case of history repeating.” While Trump stated during the Presidential debate on September 10th with Kamala Harris that his proposed import tariffs would not result in increased prices for consumers, Sand disagrees: "When ocean container shipping markets increase, that cost gets passed down the line and ultimately it is the end-consumer who pays the price. It could be through increased cost of goods on the shelves or a limited choice in the products available.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eWtSVsET #uselections #trump #Harris #tariffs

With the 2024 election just days away, the future of shipping and the supply chain hangs in the balance 🌐🚢 Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump offer starkly different visions. Trump leans towards protectionism, promising increased tariffs and a push to bring supply chains back to the U.S., potentially raising consumer costs. Harris, on the other hand, favors free trade and aims to diversify supply chains while maintaining a strong domestic manufacturing base. #Election2024 #SupplyChain #TradePolicy #Logistics

What was first and foremost important from the #shippingindustry perspective - was a clear and swift result of the US election. Extended uncertainty, would have been unpleasant, cumbersome and required a lot of contingency plans. Now that the result seems clear - #container #shippers, #carriers, and #freightforwarders and the rest of the shipping industry - has a clear idea of what comes next - so they can execute the plans they have made for the interim period. That period from what we have now - to what will be implemented at a later stage, which is a very different protectionist US. #globaltrade #supplychain #riskmanagement #logistics During times this that (and beyond): The ability to monitor, analyze and know what's right and what's not is a must have.
