Fever can be a symptom of leukemia. This occurs because leukemia weakens the immune system, making the body more susceptible to infections. Additionally, the cancer itself can cause a fever as the body tries to fight off the abnormal leukemia cells. Persistent or unexplained fevers should be evaluated by a healthcare professional to rule out serious conditions like leukemia. #BeLeukemiaAware #WLD24 #WorldLeukemiaDay #support #healthcare #symptoms #leukaemia #yourenotalone #Leukemia #PatientAdvocacy #Alan #BeAware #listentoyourbody #hope #symptoms #july #fever

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is a type of cancer that starts in the bone marrow, where immature white blood cells called lymphoblasts grow rapidly and replace normal blood-forming cells. These lymphoblasts don't mature into regular white blood cells as they should. Instead, they multiply uncontrollably and can build up in the bloodstream. This overgrowth crowds out other healthy cells in the bone marrow, leading to fewer red blood cells, platelets, and neutrophils being produced. This can cause symptoms like anemia (low red blood cells), low platelet count (which affects blood clotting), and low neutrophil count (which impacts infection fighting). In ALL, these immature cells can also spread beyond the bone marrow to places like the liver, spleen, and lymph nodes, causing them to swell. 3.5 https://lnkd.in/eJQAkgn

In this informative video we address crucial steps and treatment strategies for patients diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), particularly focusing on managing high blood counts and the available treatment options. When faced with a high blood count, it is essential to bring it under control. By normalizing the blood count and administering chemotherapy, the disease can be managed effectively to some extent. For elderly patients, typically those around 60 years old, chemotherapy alone can potentially cure the disease. On the other hand, younger and physically fit patients may benefit from a bone marrow transplant, which offers a more robust approach to curing the disease. Dr. Gopinath Consultant Hemato-Oncology(BMT) highlights the significant advancements in AML treatment over the past few decades. Ten to twenty years ago, AML was often considered incurable, and patients would lose consciousness within a few months. However, with current treatment methods, the disease can be diagnosed through genetic testing, and long-term cures are now achievable.
