This was very insightful and a well crafted addition to the maneuver warfare conversation. My thoughts continue to evolve. Some things I’ve been considering lately are: 1. The foundation is canonical text. It’s basically “warfare theory cliff notes”. You have to read the full texts to have a deeper understanding. 2. It’s called MCDP 1 “Warfighting” and should inculcate the understanding of foundational elements of war. It’s not MCDP 1 “how to be a maneuverist”. 3. Maneuver is indefensible, and in fact there are examples of how a successful maneuverist approach caused larger strategic problems. 4. Maneuver approach is better thought of as indirect approach and applicable more in operational art than tactical action . There are plenty of historical examples here. 5. Any updates should include naval theorists like Mahan and Hughes as well as understanding newer domains. 6. Updates should not try to shoehorn any capabilities to include cyber or information warfare. Those are appropriately captured in other doctrine. MCDP 8 comes to mind. 7. Updates could include joint or coalition considerations. There are examples pre Goldwater-Nicholls. But there is also doctrine that covers these. .

The latest episode of the CANSO Air Traffic Management Podcast is out now. As Europeans plan their summer holidays, European ANSPs are preparing for a busy travel season. Overall flight numbers are predicted to grow by 7 per cent compared to last summer and, in some countries, traffic will surpass pre-COVID levels. Yet there is also continued disruption to traffic flows due to the conflict in Ukraine, military training exercises and more adverse weather. How can ANSPs provide sufficient capacity across the network in this complicated operating environment, while also meeting other expectations such as regarding environmental performance? Johnny Pring discusses these questions with Iacopo Prissinotti, the Director of the EUROCONTROL Network Manager, and Enrique Maurer, CEO of Spanish air navigation services provider ENAIRE. Listen here and let us know your thoughts in the comments below: https://lnkd.in/eay49Fzz P.S You can subscribe to The CANSO Air Traffic Management Podcast on Spotify, Apple, Amazon and all the main podcast platforms. #Podcast #aviation #atm #summertravel #airports #europeairports

The future of the United States Coast Guard is poised to become increasingly complex and multifaceted as it navigates a rapidly changing global landscape. With rising geopolitical tensions, evolving maritime threats, and the growing impact of climate change on coastal regions, the Coast Guard must adapt to ensure the safety and security of the nation's waterways. As a versatile force, it will expand its capabilities in cyber defense, unmanned systems, and intelligence operations, while continuing to perform its traditional roles of search and rescue, law enforcement, and environmental protection. The Coast Guard's future will be defined by its ability to innovate and integrate advanced technologies, forge stronger international partnerships, and enhance its operational readiness to protect the United States' maritime interests in an increasingly unpredictable world.
