Christmas might be just around the corner, but it's clear that we're far from the end. Rather than being a few weeks out from that warm and fuzzy period where the higher ed world goes quiet for a bit, it feels more like entering the eye of a cyclone... a brief moment of calm before the chaos resumes. Over the past few weeks there have been some important news stories: the ESOS legislation failing to get through the Senate, the closure of a number of providers (which is a nuanced story in itself), and the breaking news the changes to Ministerial Directive 107 might be in the works. Dirk Mulder (Editor, The Koala News) and Rob Malicki (The Global Society) sit down for one of the last times in 2024 to bring you up to date on all the major news stories across the sector... and it's a big end to the year. This episode is brought to you by Choosing Your Uni (choosingyouruni.com), the platform that's changing the way that students research and choose their university. This episode is also brought to you by The Koala News, Australia's international education news site. We're also grateful for the support from Insider Studios on this episode - the world of content is shifting, so don't get left behind, the professionals at Insider are there to guide you. https://lnkd.in/erEcWQz8

Not sure about causality vs. correlation here, but… 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗲. Every time. Ever feel like your message isn’t sticking? Stats? Facts? Logic? Not enough. Research from Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman, Antonio Damasio, and others, show that: Logic clarifies, but emotions drive decisions. People decide with their hearts first. Heads second. If we skip the emotional (limbic) system, even the best ideas might miss the mark. Teaching entrepreneurship? Try these 2 engaging experiential exercises. They’ll help students understand the emotional side of customer insights: 1️⃣ 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 → Decisions start with feelings. → Success? It’s about fulfilling others' emotional needs. → Want your product to thrive? Solve for emotion, not just function. 2️⃣ 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝗲 → Actions > Words. People often do differently than they intend. → Watch what they do, not just what they say. Teaching this feels like giving students a superpower. The power to → connect, → resonate, → and succeed. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 👇 ------------------ 🔄 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 to help your fellow educators

Dr Reid, Very cool. As a YouTube creator, artist, dancer ( other than somewhat boring ai stuff and investing...) I feel threatened by your posts. I really don't have enormous computing power and AI resources which obviously you or others like you have. So I am thinking how should I evolve as an artist, comedian and dancer... How to combine AI with my creative prowess to make something very unique? I am sure I am not alone. I hope you will offer some guidance at some point. Thanks Best regards Arnab #artist #actor #comedian #dancer #artificialintelligence #ai

"If in doubt, shut up and listen". Just had to share this amazing webcast by Mike, who’s spent 50 years as a Samaritan, saving lives by simply being there on the other end of the phone. His stories and wisdom on the power of listening are incredibly moving and relevant. A lot of lessons in here that anyone can take into their day-to-day life, including work. Are we, as a generation, worse at communicating now that face-to-face interactions have been limited because of the rise of social technology? It's something worth pondering. A great listen, articulated incredibly well. Mike's experiences remind us all of the profound impact we can have on others just by offering a calm, non-judgmental space to talk. Listen to understand. Don't listen to talk. Take a moment to listen to this. It might change the way you think about communication and connection.
Several folk have mentioned that they could not attend the WebCast on Listening that I guested on last week. If you have the time and inclination, here is the recording of The Talk Show from Creativeconversations, featuring that aspect of my life of which I usually speak little. Happy Watching! https://lnkd.in/ekdQkB4H

Appreciate freely, without holding back. It doesn’t always have to be for something monumental. Acknowledge even the small gestures, like when a colleague holds the lift doors open while your hands are full of files. These everyday moments deserve more than just a quick "thank you." Go beyond words. Your simple #appreciation can change someone’s mindset, uplifting them in ways you can’t imagine. For example, a simple appreciation email from a student brought a smile and a sense of fulfillment to a teacher's life. That small act of #gratitude, without any expectation, inspired many when shared on an episode of "The Oprah Show" (https://lnkd.in/guR_7G5y). Appreciation can do wonders - - They can elevate someone's spirit: Your kind words could make their day and boost their confidence. - Create a ripple effect: When people feel valued, they’re more likely to spread kindness, passing it on to others. Be the first to appreciate it. You never know how your words could change someone’s life, or even inspire them to change the world. Thank you, Rajkumar Tennyson, your appreciation inspired me to write this post. P.S. The video snippet from "The #Oprah Show" will indeed make your day, filling it with a sense of gratitude that comes from true appreciation. Keep spreading those #positive_vibes!
