Premiumisation in Coffee: Health & Wellbeing as a Key Opportunity A recent Euromonitor report highlights a game-changing opportunity for premiumisation in the coffee sector: health and wellbeing. What does this mean for us in the coffee industry? Simply put, consumers are willing to spend more on coffee and drinks that promise to improve their health and wellbeing. There’s a growing demand for beverages that not only taste great but also make people feel better. This is the moment for coffee businesses to diversify their product offerings with healthy options that cater to this trend. Think plant-based drinks, ginger shots, and matcha lattes - these healthy alternatives are more than just a trend. They’re becoming a key driver of revenue in the coffee space. Take Ændre, a deli and café based in Hamburg, as an example. For January and February, they’ve launched their RESET program - a customer-focused initiative designed to help people kickstart healthy routines. Alongside promoting their own food and beverage offerings, Ændre has partnered with local businesses to create a holistic health and wellness experience. It’s a fantastic example of how businesses can tap into the health trend while boosting customer loyalty, community engagement, and even sustainability. The RESET program isn’t just a trend—it's a blueprint for how we can elevate our businesses and create lasting connections with customers by putting health and wellbeing at the forefront of what we do. We’ll be sharing insights from Janine Ophetveld, owner of Ændre, in an exclusive interview on the Coffee Knowledge Hub in the coming weeks. Don’t miss it! With alcohol-free options driving a 38% revenue boost and higher spend per person at our sister venue, @NineLivesBar in London, it’s clear: premium zero-alcohol offerings aren’t just sustainable; they’re game-changing. 🌎️ At Sweet&Chilli, we’re helping brands embrace this shift by crafting inclusive, premium experiences that resonate with modern drinkers. What's in your kitchen? What do you focus on when you go food shopping? Why? Are you catering to your cravings? There's a scientific explanation for that. When I worked 9 to 5, my office had a pantry. I had a drawer designated to dark chocolate, roasted almonds, and dried seaweed. I have a reputation. I select catering for events. Restaurants too, especially if the team is scheduled to travel to another city. Born from a lineage of professional chefs, gastronomy is not a certain je ne sais quoi, it is innate. Food is life. I love it. I am very passionate about it. It's also what helps us sink or swim. We underestimate it, and eat whatever we want, whenever we want. This is a no-no, especially when we need to be focused, attentive, and responsible for not missing days of work because we are too stressed to attend. The impact of sustained stress is serious. Truth be told, there are ample foods that harm us, and increase stress levels. Hello, coffee! As another example, sugary treats are fun, but should not be a solution for increased energy. That's asking for metabolic trouble. When I shop for food, I choose the essentials. Sometimes, I go overboard. Too much cheese. 500 kg of honey indulged within 10 days, eating it as a meal. This is Sardinia—considered a micro-continent of impressive biodiversity—a blue zone with ingredients of exceptional quality, tended by a community of profound tradition who boasts a deep connection to the land. After living six months in this area, and now going on almost three years in remote locations, I focus on what the body needs to thrive. Actually, I have been enjoying optimal foods since 2010. Food was my medicine, and now, it's a revitalizing and regenerative modus operandi. What matters is consistency over time. Excess honey holds no power over a decade of cold-pressed green juice. So, what's for dinner? Is it optimal? My wellness workshops outline what I coined as The 4 Pillars of Optimal Health—a wealth of intel to help you and your team thrive with vitality, and longevity. Say no to burnouts, and stress-related malaises. Load your kitchen with the good stuff. The one in the office, too. You don't need honey. 😉 💛 #refreshyourlife
