Last week, Cogent Skills welcomed colleagues from Japan's Mitsubishi Research Institute Nuclear Innovation Group and Beccy Pleasant Programme Director of the Nuclear Sector Skills Team to our Warrington office, to compare approaches to the nuclear sector's skills needs between Japan and the UK. 🤝 During the meeting, a wide range of topics were discussed including Labour Market Intelligence delivered by Cogent Skills, skills training for new sector entrants, the pipeline of young people interested in nuclear careers, sector marketing, and redeployment measures. ✍ Understanding the UK's approach to collaboration between the sector and government through the National Nuclear Strategic Plan for Skills, was a key discussion point due to the Japanese government's policy on growth for their nuclear sector. The visit provided great insights for both parties, and we look forward to further joint working between the two nations as the respective sectors develop. 🎉 #NuclearSkills #NetZeroNeedsNuclear #CogentSkills #CareerinNuclear #NuclearSkillsPlan

Best invest in Building and talking about Fusion power, space, and maritime propulsion systems and industry as data centres are. You talk about Nuclear (meaning Fission) and fail to discuss fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M The nuclear fission industry is ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, adjust your industry to fusion energy, and prepare to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline, Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now see what is happening in the Fusion industry in the world. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fuel shortage is increasingly real,

The future #nuclear sector will need not only engineers and technical workforce, but also leaders to make decisions and build the policies needed to advance nuclear power programmes around the world. With much of the current knowledge retiring, ensuring that there is a robust talent will be crucial. 🚀🔬⚙️ These were the insights shared by Aleshia Duncan, Chair of the International Framework for Nuclear Energy Cooperation (IFNEC), during the webinar "Unlocking Africa’s Potential with Nuclear Energy" organised by the American Nuclear Society 🌍⚛️ Watch the discussion here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eNqMmF_G

Pleased at COP29 to discuss U.S. support for the International Atomic Energy Agency’s IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme for nuclear newcomers. The United States is the largest contributor of the TC program and we are proud to host a range of training courses and engagements for embarking countries at our National Laboratories and premier nuclear engineering universities. Key for countries laying the foundations for their nuclear power programs is prioritizing high international nuclear safety, security and nonproliferation standards.

With the last study on global nuclear effects done decades ago, the proposed UN resolution on Nuclear War Effects and Scientific Research aims to improve our understanding of the humanitarian, environmental, economic, and societal impacts of nuclear war.
The UN should conduct a new study on the effects of nuclear war. Having updated, comprehensive research would be crucial for establishing a common understanding of the full consequences of nuclear war—a matter of universal relevance to all nations. These insights are essential not only for informed nuclear policy and decision-making but also to educate citizens around the world about the risks of a security paradigm that, if it fails, could threaten civilization. https://buff.ly/3Azpakh
