🔝 While recently formed AI-driven start-ups that are solving staggering administrative challenges in the U.S. healthcare system dominated recommendations, they also mentioned several slightly older, non-AI-focused businesses.
Great to see Abridge, CodaMetrix and Memora Health among those companies listed. 🚀

Kyle Kiser was recently interviewed for a Forbes article where he talked about Arrive Health's growth story and four key lessons for startups trying to navigate the unique complexities of the healthcare industry. Kyle stressed the importance of picking a clear stakeholder; finding a way to use regulation to your advantage; always experimenting; and using adjacent markets to help augment growth.
Read the article below to learn more about how startups can use these principles to make a #meaningfulchange in healthcare.
Of the 34 applications, 21 promising startups were chosen by 4 PM Ventures to become part of the Future Health Lab. Today, the best top 15 showed their achievements and vision to guests and partners of 4 PM Ventures. Among them — Vladimir Ovsyanikov, co-founder of Rebroker.ai and Fontado Global; angel Alexey Koushner; and Healthtech guru and executive coach Michael Genin.
We are grateful to our experts and are happy with Michael Genin's warm words: "𝘐𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘭𝘦, 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘵, 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘢𝘭𝘴. Congratulations to the teams awarded certificates for free participation in the following three modules of the Future Health Lab: Bodyscope, Nowi, SoftMedico, WLLNSS, xAID, Bdetect, and biobetter. These startups were selected since they were aligned with our focus points, prepared regarding products, actively participated in the first module of the Laboratory, and stood out in today's pitching session. We look forward to discussing participation terms with the rest of the teams, as we are committed to bringing their innovations to market.
The Future Health Lab possesses a unique configuration that combines best practices in Learning&Development from Varya Selina, the expertise of Yuri Fed and Dmitrii Fadin in Healthcare and Medicine, and Venture-building from Vladislav Lurye and Aleksejs Kornevs. Our Partnership Director, Taya Kudashkina, is actively networking with VCs and Clinics all over Europe, value engineers are always ready to help – all our efforts are only to make our startups successful and improving human life.
We look forward to seeing how teams have come along as we head into module two this Friday.

It’s not just life sciences and biopharma that’s facing a tight funding climate, as we see the start of #JPM24 highlighting the ‘nosedive’ that funding for digital health startups took in 2023 as well.
The recap isn’t without a silver lining, though, as we get to learn about the innovative approaches that companies are taking to weather the drought.
Are you following what’s coming out of the JPM Healthcare Conference 2024? What are you most excited about?
News from 4PM Ventures.
01.07.2024 there was a pitch session of projects invited to the first module of the Future Health lab, organized with the support of EIT Health. The task of the first module for the organizers was to assess the level of project readiness and the potential for the development of teams, as well as the compliance of teams with the focus of 4PM Ventures.
Some statistics: we received 34 applications in 2 weeks of recruitment for a program from 15 countries. 21 projects were invited to the first module. 15 teams passed the first module. 12 teams performed at the pitch session. 7 teams received a certificate for free participation in the laboratory.
What basic problems did the laboratory show for startups:
1. Issues of regulation in the health care system, and the fear of a number of startups to do this due to a lack of resources and not understanding where and how to attract the necessary resources.
2. Lack of preparation for piloting with potential customers and not understanding the causes of failures. We talked about how we help startups launch pilots in a publication on the 4PM Ventures page. And if you have such a task, write. We are ready to offer you our expertise to help startups launch pilots with participants in the health care system.
3. Once again, we saw teams that need to be strengthened through integration, integration into platforms in order to create demanded products and services for the healthcare system.
I appeal to investors in healthtech:
1. We are ready to invite your portfolio companies to our laboratory if they are faced with the task of launching pilots, and because of this they are stuck with you in their development.
2. We are open to cooperation with investors who understand that one of the trends in medicine is platformization. And it is necessary to essentially change the model, approaches, tools for investing in the healthtech market

H1 2024 digital health funding: Resilience leads to brilliance
In the first half of 2024, U.S. digital health startups raised $5.7 billion across 266 deals, setting the stage to potentially surpass 2019 and 2023 funding totals. Early-stage deals, particularly those involving AI startups, dominated, with significant investments in mental health, weight management, and reproductive health sectors. Despite a tight funding market, the IPO market shows signs of revival with three digital health companies going public in Q2 2024. Private equity firms also increased their acquisitions, indicating a positive momentum towards more sustainable venture patterns in digital health.

“There are ups and downs in startups. Pick something you're passionate about. If you're just doing it for the business opportunity, if you are not passionate about the company you're creating, the problem you're solving, the mission that you have, it's going to be really hard to get through those downs.”
Meet Bill Snyder, CEO of Vivante Health, a leading digital digestive health company that is commercializing GIThrive, a platform that combines data-driven technology to offer personalized care, expert advice, and real support. A recent $31M funding round will fuel Vivante’s mission to reach even more patients.
Bill has over 15 years of experience in healthcare technology and leadership. Before Vivante, he built and led national sales efforts at Virta Health, and also spent 11 years with Humana, serving in various leadership positions.
Here’s a sneak peek at Bill’s conversation with Scott Nelson:
🧩 As a digital health company, you have to know where your product or service fits in the overall healthcare ecosystem. That way, you know how to interact with other providers and consumers, and in turn, you can connect the dots for your end-users about the precise role you play in the care they receive.
🏦 Ensure your product is financially accessible for adoption. That requires you to understand different plans and regulations and demonstrate your product’s clinical efficacy and potential for cost savings. Target customers that you can create a clear win-win situation for.
📈 Show your progress to build trust with potential investors. Network and communicate with them on a regular basis. Focus on sustainable growth and understand your business’s unit economics in detail so you can articulate and justify your decisions.
