In Ljubljana, Slovenia, an adaptive reuse project, brings natural light into the heart of its historical past. Built initially in the 1930’s, the home was built for the bourgeois of the time. In the 1980’s it was extensively renovated, which took away a lot of its original elements and broke it up into separate parts. The latest owners, wanted to bring the property back to its former glory, nodding to its historical elements, while creating a stronger connection with its outdoor spaces. Clearstory windows allow for an abundance of natural sunlight to filter into the spaces, reducing the need for additional lighting. A large and expanded outdoor garden space, allows for the owners to have an outdoor living room as well as an indoor one. The architecture team wanted to protect and preserve the existing building, which, subsequently reduced the need for outside materials being brought in, lowering its overall carbin footprint. There are so many different ways for designers to approach sustainability initiatives, and each of them are important and contribute to the greater goal, of lowering carbon emissions. We’re all in this together #sustainability #sustainabledesign #sustainablearchitecture #architecture #architecturaldesign #designbuild #adaptivereuse #reducereuserecycle #urbandesign #urbanplanning

Forget restoring balance with nature, it's time to rewrite the script entirely. We're not just living on this planet, we're building our homes on it. Imagine if our dwellings – from sprawling megacities to cozy cabins – actually worked with our bodies, not against them. This future isn't some utopian fantasy; it's about harnessing cutting-edge design to optimize human health and well-being. It's about building environments that invigorate us, not confine us.
This “living” skyscraper is set to be constructed in Seoul. J.Mayer.H won an international design competition with its proposal for Cheongdam Tower, a structure that the architects hope will form a “living, breathing organism in the urban landscape” In a statement, the practice added: “The Cheongdam Tower forms the center of the Korean fashion and K-Culture scene in Seoul and impressively reflects the contemporary attitude to life, in which nature and culture are combined with high-end living and luxury consumption.” 📷 J.Mayer.H #architecture #construction #skyscraper #seoul

All future design now needs to incorporate living green plants, trees and mosses as nature based solutions for more sustainable green buildings, green infrastructure and green spaces. There are multiple benefits produced in these stacking functions of architectural design, biophilic design, horticulture, engineering, urban planning and design. It is exciting to see so many more cities making large investments in this direction. #greenbuildings #sustainabledevelopment #sustainabledesign #sustainablearchitecture #biophilicdesign #urbandesign #climateinvestment #greencities #verticalforest #urbanforest #greenroofs #coolingsolutions #coolingsystems #planttrees

Why Biophilic Architecture is the future of modern design Biophilic architecture is a creative design approach that brings natural elements into buildings, creating spaces that help people feel more connected to nature. This approach not only elevates the aesthetic beauty of buildings but also significantly enhances the well-being of those who live in them. Lew Geffen Sotheby's International Realty explores why biophilic architecture is set to become a key part of modern design. Public garden..... The project consists of the exhibition center and the water bar along the street. The architectural design itself has included a great variety of vigorous spaces, but due to the complexity of functional demands, how the landscape should integrate the staggering spaces together in accordance with all functional requirements has become the focus of this project.

Terraced communication Take a look with us at the SQUARE building at the University of St. Gallen: Designed by the acclaimed architect Sou Fujimoto, this terraced structure not only accentuates the natural landscape but also supports innovative approaches to education thanks to communicative spatialization. A standout feature of the building is its double-skin façade. It comprises 448 unique elements, each made of float glass and laminated safety glass coated with #SILVERSTAREN2Plus for excellent thermal insulation and high light transmission. The triple-glazed units ensure optimum energy efficiency, with a Ug of 0.6 W/(m²K) important in winter, while blinds within the façade prevent overheating in summer. Additionally, the dot-matrix pattern of the outer pane not only provides a further level of solar control, but also creates a distinctive texture that enhances the building's visual identity.
