Happy Interns Day! I spoke with one of my clients about the interns she has working with her this summer and she told me about a question she asked each of them recently. She asked each of them what they hadn't worked on yet but wanted to before the end of the summer. I think this is such an important thing to find out. Remember, you have the ability to help a young person determine their future path right now. Talk to your interns. Ask questions. Find out what they love and don't love. Those smiles can only mean one thing... it's Draft Day! Today I got to join our NGSA Summer Interns in Round Rock, TX as they learned who's team they would be joining for the remainder of the summer. The excitement, community, and eagerness to get started was undeniable--I can't wait to see the incredible things you accomplish alongside each other. For those of you completing summer internships, here are four tips I'd like to share with you: 1. Lean into your experience. Raise your hand in the classroom, ask the 'silly' question, and volunteer for the project. Maximize every day and you'll walk away knowing that you got the most out of your summer internship. 2. Build a network. There are many tenured and passionate industry professionals who have waited months to invest in you--seek out their mentorship and form connections. 3. Look at failure as another piece of the puzzle. As uncomfortable as it may seem, trust that every obstacle and setback leads you one step closer to success. 4. Explore the city you're in! Whether you're close to home or visiting somewhere new for the first time, be intentional in immersing yourself. I'm immensely grateful to play a small role in your journeys to Dell and now it's time to cheer you on from the sidelines! #Iwork4dell

There is perhaps no more important mission in the gas markets than to expose young people to the nature and importance of energy security, natural gas' critical role in carbon emissions reduction, support for America's Allies around the globe for energy access, use of a native US resource to support a manufacturing renaissance here in the US...the list goes on. Thanks to Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline and Shawn Patterson for pursuing this mission. Our Target interns were privileged to learn from four members of our C-suite today! I thought it was a mistake when Procter & Gamble paid the full stipend for my summer internship within the 1st week of joining itself. I wondered, how could they pay when I haven't worked to earn it yet? What if someone just slacked throughout the internship? When I asked my guide about this, he said, "when we have hired you, we TRUST you to do the right thing." I was amazed as I had never seen this before. The company was ready to trust even its interns with the entire payment upfront. Somehow, it instilled a sense of increased responsibility within me to live up to the company's trust. I would have worked hard anyway, however this gesture made me more accountable and I worked with an increased vigor. I realized that when the company shows such faith, you are bound to perform at your peak. What do you think? Do share in comments!
