Chairman & Chief Executive Officer @ Colonna's Shipyard

For Sandra Spriggs, Colonna’s Shipyard’s longtime Toolroom & Storeroom Supervisor (also a Berkley, Norfolk native), there is nothing more important than Family - a Company value that she holds close to her heart. Over 40 years ago, after seeing an ad in the local paper, Sandra found her home here and has never looked back.   Over the years, she has not only seen Colonna’s business grow, but also its culture. When Sandra began working at Colonna’s, she was one of only four female employees at the yard. With a predominantly male workforce, she asserted that the yard was also a “woman’s place” and she has seen it become home to many female employees over the years. She also respects the Company for being a 2nd chance employer and allowing people the opportunity to start anew.   Sandra stated her most cherished memories are of my grandad, the late Mr. Colonna, walking with him around the yard, seeing his vision, plant meetings, watching the family grow, and at times, being pranked by him. She grew close to our family, especially my aunt, the late Karen Colonna, whom she called her best friend.   Although Sandra retires from Colonna’s today, a piece of her stays here. In our West Yard sits a vital part of our daily operations - a Manitowoc Lattice-Boom Crawler Crane – that has been named Sandra in her honor. To Sandra, this is the highest honor she could have received because “cranes are named after family.”   Thank you, Sandra, for being a great employee, mentor, and leader but most of all, thank you for being a part of our Colonna’s Family. We wish you an exciting, but restful, retirement! #Colonnas1875 #RespectPrideTruthFamily #WomenInTrades #Leader #30PlusYearsMakingShipHappen
