🌍 WORLD CANCER DAY FEB 4TH 🌍 This years theme is “Close the Care Gap” which sheds light on the global disparities in cancer care. I believe the most important step in the Global fight against cancer is raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of this complex disease and early detection. Breast Cancer is the commonest cancer affecting women worldwide and the most common cancer overall. It is so important for women to know how to examine their breasts, attend their screening mammogram or simply speak to their family doctor if they notice a lump in their breast. The cancer journey is not an easy one for either the patient or the caregiver/family. There is an overwhelming amount of new research, data, and trials that are always out there. Being informed and taking an active co-pilot role in your treatment decisions becomes a necessity, but it’s not easy to keep up. I joined Cancer Patient Lab (previously called Cancer Hacker Lab) about a year back and it has been a huge help for me. It’s a learning community of advanced cancer patients that are all engaged in learning and helping each other manage our journeys, for hopefully better outcomes. We bring in leading expert doctors and researchers from the industry to share their work through regular webinars and QnA, besides patients and citizen-scientists sharing their own findings, and true life experience with both standard of care and beyond treatments. I am part of the core team of this community and helping grow it from an initial focus on Prostate Cancer to now also include Pancreatic and Brain Cancer.
