This week, our Executive Director Ashley Jellison and Zach Carlson from the Denver Children's Advocacy Center met with Representative Pettersen in Washington, DC to talk about child advocacy centers in Colorado and the coming VOCA cuts. It was great to be able to highlight our CACs' important work in the state, as well as to explore possible solutions to upcoming funding concerns.

Motherhood is a wild ride, perhaps the hardest thing I have ever done. This Women In Bio - Capital Region webinar made me feel that we are not alone in this wild journey. It was good to have this honest conversation to dissect what moms had encountered in workplaces and homes. For example, women often have a wage penalty after having a child whereas men are seen as more mature (check motherhood penalty for more info). Another thing that resonated with me was the mental load; the time we spent on researching the best gear for our kids, scheduling/making doctor's appointments, planning playdates/parties, and more. Moms are not superwomen and we shouldn't need to be. We need support, whether it is judgment-free verbal support or societal/workplace benefit support. Thanks Moms at Work and Allison for the conversation. Check out their website for more resources.
Whether you are a new parent, planning on having children, or already have children in grade school, this discussion is for you. Join Allison Venditti, the founder of the career and advocacy organization Moms at Work, for an honest conversation about working and mothering and how to make this combination better for all of us. Join us this Thursday! https://lnkd.in/eSUU5eyw

Advocacy for early childhood education is ensuring that every child has access to: 1. High quality early learning experiences 2. Stable housing 3. High quality doctors and dentists 4. Resources to help overcome poverty 5. Language rich environments This list could go on and on but we need to ensure children have access to these things listed when 80-90% of the brain is development from birth to 5 years. #earlychildhoodeducation #advocacy #quality

Compassionate care involves a focus on relationship through careful listening, understanding and been emphatic towards others.
🙌 a true educator follows the principles of advocacy for the ones that can’t advocate for themselves. A true educator has a moral response to make sure the rights of each child and not only “some” are protected. Advocacy is our core responsibility. A true advocate will stand up for injustice and if there is no way to fix things in a system that is broken than moving on is just logical. The time will come when educators are not afraid to stand up and a time we will be viewed as professionals for the work we do.
