🌟 Meet Athletic Trainers: Julianna Oehrlein & Africa Harper 🌟 JULIANNA OEHRLIN From Oakland, NJ, with 1.5 years at CU, Julianna integrates a James Madison University education into her care. She's propelled by a love for sports, a nursing legacy from her mom, and the drive to combine healthcare and athletics. Transitioning from high school football fields to pediatric orthopedics, Julianna enjoys the dynamic, impactful nature of athletic training. "Growing up in a sports-loving, healthcare-oriented family, becoming an ATC was a natural step. It blends my passions perfectly. Seeing a full recovery—from injury on the basketball court, through surgery, to leading rehab—that's the real win." AFRICA HARPER Dedicated to athletic training for 4 years with CU and hailing from the Bronx, NY, Africa brings a SUNY Cortland education to Dr. Roberts' team. Aiding recovery from orthopedic injuries is more than a job—it's her calling, inspired by helping her mother. Every athlete's unique journey keeps her challenged and fulfilled, wearing many hats in her diverse role. "Stepping into athletic training let me help others return to their everyday life. I adore the variety and challenges each day brings—no injury is the same, and the solutions are just as diverse. There’s a thrill in the unpredictability." #AthleticTrainer #SportsMedicine #HealthcareHeroes #ATC #NATM2024

Who should be a Director of Rehab? I have been seeing numerous postings for Direct of Rehab and similar roles at high major schools and professional sport settings. Unfortunately, all of these roles mandate a physical therapy license in addition to other qualifications. While I believe that PT’s make great candidates for these roles, I do not understand why an ATC or DC can’t be eligible for these roles? ATC’s are trained in high level rehab and more importantly can cover the later stages of rehab before clearance for return to play. While the Chiropractic curriculum only has 1-2 classes in rehab, there are fellowships one can completes specific in rehab along with sports medicine (DACRB, DACBSP) to make one qualified. I hope that in the coming years, ATC’s and Chiros can be seen equally in providing the full spectrum of rehab among hiring organizations. #athletictraining #athletictherapy #athleticperformance #athleticmedicine #strengthandconditioning #sportsperformance #sportsmedicine #sportschiropractic #basketball #basketballperformance #sportscience

Head Physiotherapist @Altrincham FC 🎓 MSc Physiotherapy 🎓 BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy | MCSP | HCPC | ITMMIF | ITEC L4 Sports Massage | Bilingual - 🏴🇮🇹 10+ years private practice exp.
Bit of advice to any Sports Therapy/Rehab or Physio students/recent graduates looking to pursue a career in professional football.. 1) Volunteer! Not just in sport but private practice! This gives you an opportunity to shadow more experienced practitioners treating patients with a wider range of conditions. You learn LOADS & It OPENS doors!! Don’t email or message.. turn up in person! Ask face to face! (I volunteered in some capacity for the first 5 years post graduation from my undergrad) 2) Get to work! Get the confidence to start seeing patients ASAP, even if it’s just for sports massage for example. You can practice the new skills/treatment/rehab techniques as well as your communication skills. 3) Start at the bottom!! Get yourself involved in non-league football, supporting or leading departments, you will develop tremendously! Working on your own initiative, making many decisions, communicating with MDT, responsibilities, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehab skills!! All working within tight budgets with limited facilities and equipment! You learn to think outside the box!! 4) Expand your education! Do as many courses or CPD as possible! Turn yourself into a versatile practitioner. Also brilliant opportunities to connect with other professionals and network. 5) 👇🏽 Work your ASS off! 😊 only way is 🆙 If you want it bad enough its a matter of WHEN not if. #physiotherapy #sportstherapy #sportsrehab #sportsmedicine #musculoskeletal #privatepractice #dedication #sacrifice #footballphysio

Teaching more advanced plyometrics to athletes recovering from injury is a must if return to sport or performance is their goal. However, fear on re-injury and a lack of trust in their power production on the injured lower extremity are all too often encountered patient athlete obstacles by the rehabilitation professional. Hence, the sports medicine professional often must alter the surrounding environment of the patient athlete in order for them to feel confident in their ability to perform the prescribed plyometric task. Below is an easy way in which I like to better enable a patient athlete to perform a type of continuous bounding while utilizing hoops as external targets. Feel free to use as indicated or to reach out with questions! If you are looking to learn more about how to blend rehab with reconditioning principles for return to sport, check out the courses down below as both are accredited for CEUs for both physical therapists and S & C coaches! Overhaul your student-athlete academic lifestyle after sports concussion PANELISTS: Dr. Tabia Pope, Emily Gibson and Dasnii Curtis Candi Waller moderated a discussion on the best practices to overhaul a student-athlete's academic lifestyle after sports concussion. We discussed how student-athletes are better equipped once they take control of their own learning needs and understand the role of speech-language pathologists in sports concussion management. SLPs use tools, strategies and accommodations that can help them navigate their journey throughout recovery and lifetime. We just need to find the solution to making sure these strategies are integrated into their daily routines. It can be viewed as something extra! It all has to be aligned with their tutoring time and academic advisors. #headtospeech #returntolearn #slpeeps #audpeeps #brainhealth #braininjuryawareness #concussionawareness #sportsconcussionawareness #schoolslps #medicalslps #athletictrainers #athleticdirectors #collegesports #physicaltherapists #occupationaltherapists #alliedhealthprofessionals #education #parents #sportsparents #athletes #sports #academics #studentathletes #advocacy #concussionmanagement #executivefunctioning #academicadvisors #athletesuccess Photography by @ctmphotographybyro
