Our team, led by partner Ryan Robski alongside associate Tianwei Liu, represented the underwriters in connection with Bank of Montreal’s USD1.05bn registered public offering of senior unsecured notes. The offering was comprised of USD750m aggregate principal amount of 5.004% Fixed/Floating Rate Senior Notes due 2029 and USD300m aggregate principal amount of Floating Rate Notes due 2029, under BMO’s U.S. medium-term note program. Bank of Montreal, North America’s 8th largest bank by assets, has been serving customers for over 200 years, providing a broad range of financial services to more than 13 million customers. Scotiabank gets Fed’s approval to take bigger KeyBank stake Of the four largest Canadian banks, Scotiabank has the smallest presence in the US, and CEO Scott Thomson has considered exiting some unprofitable markets in South America. He is now prioritized moving capital from developing markets to developed ones.   The Federal Reserve has approved Scotiabank’s application to acquire up to 14.99% of Cleveland-based KeyBank, the central bank announced Thursday. The approval means the Canadian lender can proceed with the second phase of its $2.8 billion investment in KeyBank, announced in August. Phase 2 accounts for $2 billion of that money. It will also allow Scotiabank to nominate two directors to KeyBank’s board. The Fed’s green light comes earlier than expected. Scotia and Key initially projected central bank approval in the first quarter of 2025.
