July is Park and Recreation Month! Parks and recreational areas often include bodies of water such as lakes, ponds, and rivers. Ensuring the quality of these water sources is crucial for public health and enjoyment. Engineers are vital in designing and maintaining systems that prevent pollution and ensure clean water in these areas. #ParkAndRecreationMonth #CleanWater

Is it time for a Cityscape Stewardship Scheme - if one isn't already available? Countryside Stewardship (CS) is where landowners are paid for environmental contributions: managing a hedgerow a certain way, or creating a natural flood defence. However, almost all 21st Century Britain's population is urban/suburban, and I believe our private, rural landowners/farmers are linked with and understand the environment, they just do what the government pay them to, which isn't always the best thing (e.g., CAP). So could we not have a Cityscape Stewardship Scheme? 🤔 Where people apply for a financial reward to lay their garden hedge to reduce wind, install a bog garden to reduce urban runoff, or even a window box to wildlife-friendly spec. Money would emphasise the importance of these features (as is sadly often needed today), people would have to opt in thus providing proof of their feature in an application, and it could connect/buff landscape-scale work, which cities etc., can be an unnecessary clot in. I for one would support a Cityscape Stewardship Scheme, and don't think its (entirely) to do with the fact its twenty past midnight after some drinks. #CityscapeStewardship #CountrysideStewardship #Rewilding #UrbanRewilding

#lakes #conservation #watermanagement #urbanplanning #remotesensing #gis #aiforgood #aiapplications #naturalresources #waterconservation As urbanization continues to dominate our landscapes, the significance of preserving lakes within urban ecosystems becomes increasingly crucial. These bodies of water serve as vital lifelines that not only add aesthetic value but also provide numerous environmental benefits to our cities and their inhabitants. In an era where concrete jungles are rapidly expanding, lakes act as natural reservoirs, helping to mitigate the risks of flooding by absorbing excess rainwater. Moreover, they contribute to balancing temperature extremes in urban areas, acting as natural coolants during scorching summers and preserving heat during cold winters. Apart from their functional aspects, lakes are also valuable recreational spaces. They allow city dwellers to connect with nature, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, and simply unwinding amidst a serene environment. This integration of nature and the urban setting is essential for fostering a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Having identified the pivotal role of lakes in our urban ecosystems, it becomes imperative to protect and sustain them. By incorporating effective management strategies and ensuring responsible urban planning, we can preserve these aquatic wonders for generations to come. Isn't that a beautiful sight? 🌳 🌳 🌳 Tree preservation isn't just good for the trees, it's good for everyone! These live oaks have been well-preserved in a new apartment community, and we've been checking in on them as part of our construction monitoring service. Urban trees play an important role in reducing the "heat island" effect, decreasing energy demand, decreasing stormwater runoff, providing wildlife habitats, and increasing property value. That's a win-win-win-win-win. #TreeMannSolutions | #treepreservation | #siteplanning | #urbandevelopment | #constructionmonitoring | #savetime | #savemoney | #savetrees | #urbanlandscape | #permitting | #liveoak | #texastrees

🌳 🐞 🦋 The future of rewilding is full of exciting possibilities. As the urgency of ecological restoration becomes undeniable, this innovative approach is poised to play a transformative role in healing our planet. 📈 One key aspect of rewilding's future lies in scaling up. While successful projects exist, the scale of the ecological crisis necessitates a more ambitious approach. 🌤 That's where smaller-scale rewilding comes in. Empowering the population to rewild private and public spaces (be that workplaces, public parks, schools, gardens or balconies) unlocks millions of acres of land to increase bio-diversity. ☀ So the future is bright and its in your hands! Two issues of our environment are of primary concern: Many lovely historic homes are replaced by enormous structures leaving no room for gardens, trees, or enclosed play areas such as traditional backyards. and Noisy and polluting gasoline powered leaf blowers and equipment. If one is concerned about the heating of our planet, we should restores not dismantle graceful and modest structures, sensitively adding less square footage of concrete and steel, and planting trees, shrubs and flowers. Bring back the push mower, the rake and the broom, and native plants as well. The European countries do not allow their cities to be plagued with this nonsense but getting there is but a fantasy for many.

Big Chalk is a big idea. This globally precious habitat is important for people AND nature, and is key to our government's 30x30 commitments. It's time for us to think outside our boundaries. Nature has none - nor should we. This significant partnership of over 150 organisations includes: 🦋 12 National Landscapes 🌳 South Downs National Park Authority 👣 8 National Trails UK It's goal is to align national nature recovery targets and plans with modes of delivery at regional and local levels. It sets a new kind of precedent - moving from siloes to systems. (What our environment desperately needs). Huge thanks Natural England and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs via the Protected Landscapes Partnership for their support. June is Recreation and Parks Month (JRPM)! Access to parks and recreation fosters personal and environmental health, social inclusion, and strong communities. This JRPM, we encourage you to support outdoor recreation by learning more about invasive species. Invasive species can impact the ability to enjoy outdoor space by forcing closures (such as Emerald Lake, B.C., due to whirling disease), encroaching on trails, compromising native species and biodiversity that support the health and beauty of natural spaces, and incurring management costs. For example, picture a lake that has been rapidly clogged up by European water chestnut, preventing the boating and swimming enjoyed in previous years. Things you can do to help protect your local parks and spaces? 🍃Play Clean Go by brushing off your pets, boots, and gear before and after entering a natural area. 🍃Buy firewood locally. 🍃Clean Drain Dry your watercraft. 🍃And more!
