The more accessible ALL PATHS TO RECOVERY are, the more opportunities people have to recover.
“[Switzerland] has become a model for a highly effective, evidence-based policy response to a drug epidemic. And in roughly a dozen wealthy, developed nations where methadone is far more accessible than in the U.S., public health outcomes are far better.” https://bit.ly/3xzwScn

🚨 New Research Alert: Opioid Crisis Impact 🚨 A recent study by Johns Hopkins, published in The Lancet Regional Health–Americas, reveals the staggering toll of opioid overdoses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Key findings include: 🔹 Opioid-related deaths reduced U.S. life expectancy by nearly a year in the early pandemic years. 🔹 Overdose deaths almost doubled among young Black, Hispanic, and American Indian/Alaska Native populations. 🔹 In 2022, over 80,000 opioid-related deaths occurred, with victims losing an average of 38 years of life. This crisis highlights the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to combat opioid addiction, especially as it spreads across diverse communities. The study's public dashboard offers a detailed look at the demographic impact, guiding targeted interventions. At Curednation, we're committed to supporting those affected by addiction and advocating for effective public health policies. Let's work together to turn the tide on this devastating epidemic. In the last few years, harm reduction has become a prominent public health strategy, especially amid the ongoing opioid crisis and other substance abuse issues. The main focus of harm reduction is to minimize the health legal impacts associated with high-risk behaviors rather than solely promoting complete abstinence. This approach acknowledges that while eliminating certain behaviors may be challenging, there are ways to reduce the resulting harms through practical and compassionate interventions.

State and tribal governments will receive more than $1.5 billion in federal funds to combat the opioid crisis, the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration announced Thursday. The announcement comes as nationwide overdose rates dipped for the first time since 2020, dropping 10% from April 2023 to April 2024, according to federal data. It’s a welcome sign of progress to federal, state and local governments. Most of the new federal funds—$1.49 billion—will support states’ mitigation efforts like increasing residents’ access to medications for opioid use disorder through, for example, mobile clinics or telehealth services. The remaining funds are allocated for tribal governments and technical assistance for grant recipients to carry out their opioid response programs. Learn more at Route Fifty: https://lnkd.in/ekJmzygk

It's common to use substances when no one else is around — but a supervised consumption site can be a safer alternative. When properly established, these sites: - provide supportive environments for safe consumption - reduce the risk of accidental overdose - connect people to social services (housing, employment, food, etc.) - provide or connect people to healthcare services - reduce the spread of infectious diseases Need help finding one? More positive data with opioid related overdose deaths in Alberta. Another month reported by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (this is an actual physician in Alberta) shows a small but meaningful reduction and continued reductions month over month for more than a year! We are also seeing reductions throughout North America. We must remember in the US access to life saving harm reduction and treatment has many barriers and are severely lacking. The rates are higher throughout many states than BC, AB, or ON. They are quite behind but as they increase services, rates are lowering. The basics of naloxone and suboxone/methadone are a must! https://lnkd.in/gc6ib-mv We see BC shifting to increase access to treatment. Premier Eby is in a heated election, but both leading parties have shifted away from experimental treatments and focused on evidence based treatment. https://lnkd.in/gniNCMBf This is all good news. While some political activists argue over the lives and recovery of our most vulnerable, we must stay focused on helping those who need it most. Recovery requires medical stabilization and longer term treatment for many. Access to housing and supportive housing is a must and we need to see movement here. Communities to support and celebrate recovery is how we finally recover as a society. Some will chose politics over people, and media will give them their voices, although divisive and not helpful. Experts will focus on evidence-based approaches and informed polices. There is still much to do, but we must celebrate even the smallest wins. Every life counts. Together we can change everything! https://lnkd.in/gTVgBm-A
