Yesterday marked my one-year anniversary as an educator. As I internally celebrate this milestone, I’d like to take a moment to provide a public thank you to the amazing people and organizations who helped me develop as an equitable educator and advocate.
Firstly, this anniversary would not have been possible without the trust bestowed on me by Teach For America. It is TFA who built within me the courage to enter the classroom and has consistently provided me with all the resources I need to thrive as an educator. I would also like to extend a special expression of gratitude to Lisa Rosales, my TFA leadership coach. I see Lisa not only as my coach but as my role model. It is my hope to one day embody all of the light and positivity she represents within the education sector.
This past year, I also grew as an advocate alongside the Nation’s number one dropout prevention program, the Communities In Schools National Office. I am a proud CIS alum and a living testimony to the life-changing impact this program has on the lives of the students they serve. This past year, I thrived as an advocate for CIS inside of my home campus and throughout the Central Texas region, as I racked up a total of 5 CIS events in which I got to serve as a featured speaker and advocate for the organization. CIS has shaped the course of not only my career but the course of my life. I am looking forward to continuing to pass along that same life-changing care that CIS gave me to the next generation.
Finally, I would also like to extend a celebratory shout-out to the H.U.G. Reading Program, as it was through my work alongside them in undergrad that I gained practical education and advocacy knowledge, which I have carried with me as I have grown as an educator.
In closing, I am so grateful to have had a wonderful network of support, and guidance that built within me the foundational skills which contribute to my existence today as a second-year educator. Thank you all for the amazing impact you have had on my journey. It is my goal to pay your impact forward each and every day this upcoming school year.
