As Black History Month comes to a close, it's important to reflect on the profound contributions and struggles of Black individuals and communities. February may be the designated month, but Black history is part of the fabric of our shared human story, and it deserves recognition and celebration every day of the year. This Black History Month has been marked by both celebration and reflection as we've battled with ongoing racial injustices and systemic inequities. It's a reminder that the work of creating a more just and equitable society is far from over. As we move forward, let's commit ourselves to learning more about Black history beyond February, supporting Black-owned businesses and initiatives, and actively participating in efforts to dismantle racism and promote inclusivity and equality for all. Black history is American history, and it's everyone's responsibility to honor, learn from, and advocate for it every day. As we reflect, educate, and celebrate black history, let's not forget to repeat this process every month and everyday. #BlackHistoryMonth #EveryMonthIsBlackHistoryMonth

🖤 The roots of Black History Month go all the way back to 1925, when Negro History Week was first planned and announced. Following the Civil Rights movement of the ‘60s, the week was finally expanded to a month in 1976. As President Gerald Ford noted, we should recognize and “honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” We still have a lot of work to realize true equality. 🖤 The National Museum of African American History & Culture's 2024 is African Americans and the Arts, celebrating those who use their creative gifts to drive social change. 🖤 There are a wealth of online resources offering education and resources for recognizing Black History in February and all year long: Search the Library of Congress, National Archives, National Endowment for the Humanities, the Smithsonian, and the National Park Service. 🖤 We can all contribute to the continued advancement of black people by seeking to understand our past, and supporting black leaders for our future. Representation matters, and our insistence on it is vital to our collective success. #blackhistory #blackhistorymonth #civilrights #blacklivesmatter

It’s Black History Month. 🙌🏾 A time to celebrate and honor the contributions, achievements, and voices of Black people. But the celebration of Black History Month and the successes and #perseverance of Black people cannot be addressed without acknowledging the deep disparities, inequities, and systems of power that Black people have to continuously overcome. As an organization that’s committed to advancing health #equity, we understand it is vital to examine the complex interactions between people and their environments if we’re to be a part of the fight for a more equitable future. Throughout Black History Month, week by week, we will amplify Black voices, #innovations, resources, and issues that disproportionately impact Black communities and the contributions ETR is making to address Black health equity in and outside the organization. #HealthEquity #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHealth #BHM #BHM2024 #BlackHealthMatters #BlackHistory

🌟 **Celebrating Black History Month: Robert C. Weaver** 🌟 As we honor the legacy of influential leaders, let's shine a spotlight on **Robert Clifton Weaver**, a trailblazer who left an indelible mark on American history. Born on December 29, 1907, in Washington, D.C., Weaver's journey exemplifies resilience, intellect, and unwavering commitment to social progress. 🎓 **Education and Expertise** Weaver's academic prowess led him to Harvard University, where he earned multiple degrees, including the **first Ph.D. in economics conferred on a person of color**. His expertise centered on housing, and he harnessed his elite economic credentials to reveal how discrimination disproportionately affected Black communities. 🔍 **Advocacy and Impact** In 1934, at just 27 years old, Weaver joined the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration. As a member of President Roosevelt's **Black Cabinet**, he championed the inclusion of Black communities in New Deal relief programs. Weaver played a pivotal role in creating the U.S. Housing Administration, channeling $50 million into federal housing projects while ensuring fair employment practices for builders. 🏢 **HUD and Historic Appointment** Fast forward to 1966, when President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Weaver as the **first United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)**. His visionary leadership transformed urban development policies, emphasizing equity, affordable housing, and community empowerment. Weaver's legacy endures as he shattered barriers and paved the way for future generations. 🌆 **Building Bridges** Weaver's impact extended beyond policy corridors. He bridged academia, government, and activism, leaving an indelible imprint on civil service. His commitment to justice and equality resonates today, reminding us that progress requires courage, collaboration, and compassion. 🙌 **Let's Remember Robert Weaver** This February, let's honor Robert C. Weaver—a beacon of hope, a catalyst for change, and a symbol of resilience.
