Today is National Coming Out Day! 🌈 While this annual awareness is dedicated to supporting those coming out as LGBTQ+, there are plenty of ways to make youth and communities feel safe beyond this observance. You can learn more about that in this piece on the ETR Blog, “Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth Beyond Pride Month,” by Joseph Kosciw, Director of Mental Health Research and Impact at ETR. Dr. Kosciw details the importance of LGBTQ+ visibility for a sense of connection and belonging, key elements of acceptance and pride for LGBTQ+ youth, and how to consistently support them year-round. According to the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine, Gen Z and Millennials use urgent care more widely, with around 36% reporting having been to an urgent care clinic in the past 6 months, compared with 19% of Baby Boomers. This is connected to a decline in the number of young adults with an established Primary Care Provider (PCP). There are many factors contributing to this decline, including: ➡ Unaffordability of care ➡ Living in rural areas ➡ Lack of convenience ➡ Urgent mental health issues Learn about this topic in a Physician's Weekly article by ETRians Colleen Sargent, Research Assistant III, Lauren Ranalli, MPH (she/hers), Director of Communications and Public Affairs, and Ellen Wagner, Wagner, Business Development Manager. As we conclude our Innovation Development Team spotlight series, we are proud to introduce YouthCHAT, an innovative youth engagement and training program at University of Minnesota Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Health. ✨ Using youth as educators, this program trains health professionals to create safe and supportive environments in clinical settings. These educators work with medical faculty to develop a character that is a teen or young adult patient with a health concern in simulated clinical interviews. This helps interdisciplinary healthcare professionals enhance and broaden their skillset on feeling comfortable working with adolescent patients and providing more compassionate care with young people. We are thrilled to work with such a talented, diverse cohort this year and are excited for our journey ahead together! 🎉 Want to learn more about the RYSE Innovation Hub and how we support innovations? Transformational leadership | Health Equity | Chief Executive Officer at ETR | Founding member of Chief San Francisco
Schools are anchor institutions in our communities. They ground us in the support of the dedicated educators, staff, and administrators who nurture our children and youth. They connect us with a broader ecosystem of parents, families, and local organizations working within and alongside schools. Most importantly, they plant the seeds of possibility for a better tomorrow. ETR is honored to commit to the Alignment for Progress 90/9090 goals with an emphasis on supporting wellness in schools through science-based resources. Thank you to The Kennedy Forum for hosting and thank you to Madhuri Jha, MPH, LCSW for representing our commitment to this work, as you do every day.
Closed out this whirlwind week in DC being utterly inspired at the Alignment for Progress summit hosted by The Kennedy Forum. So many things to say about it! Thank you Rebecca O. Bagley and team for an incredible event. Patrick J. Kennedy and Amy Kennedy the amount you inspire people around you is limitless — I’m perpetually in awe! Was wonderful to catch up with old friends and make new ones. I’m also proud to see a shining star from my old stomping grounds The Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services (CASES), Tonie Dreher, get her well deserved flowers as a champion for mental health and mental health storytelling. If you haven’t read “Profiles in Mental Health Courage” yet, you must! ANDDD lastly, was honored to represent ETR and Vignetta Charles, and express our commitment to the 90/90/90 goals through supporting educators and school-based professionals with emotional well being resources in the many school districts we serve. This fall season is just getting started —- now it’s back home to NYC for some rest and recharge!
