Can you Imagine being born in another era? Unable to vote. Forbidden to drive. Deemed incapable of studying certain courses. Only allowed to speak after being spoken to in a room with men. We’ve come a long way and we’re here now by the efforts of those who came before us. But there’s more to be done. Invest in women; accelerate the progress. #InspireInclusion

“Never rely on someone else for money” - was a phrase I heard again and again from my mother as I was growing up. I didn’t know it then but she was teaching me ‘financial independence’. Being financially independent, can open doors to so many opportunities, not just for women, but also for their communities. I am so very proud that Standard Chartered has rolled out so many initiatives that invest in women and girls, to provide them financial independence and economic empowerment. There is a very long list, but here’s 4 fun facts to know: 👧👧🏻👧🏼👧🏽👧🏿🧕 2 MILLION women and girls, across 30 locations in six continents, supported through The WOW Foundation (WOW) . As the Chair of WOW Foundation, it means a lot that Standard Chartered Bank is a WOW Global Girls Champion sponsor. 💪💪🏽💪🏾2.1 MILLION young people, 68% of whom are women and girls. This is how many we have positively impacted through Standard Chartered’s Futuremakers programme since 2019. We’ve helped disadvantaged young women to learn, earn and grow through education, employability and entrepreneurship. 💥 140,000 jobs to be created between 2024 – 2030. This is what we are aiming for, for our next phase of Futuremakers. 🚀$375,000 invested in 2023, in women-led tech start-ups in Africa, the Middle East and the US! This is done through our Women in Tech programme, with another 3 initiatives expected this year. This International Women’s Day, let’s all celebrate the progress made towards a gender equal society but also recognise there is so much more to do. So much. Gender equality has to be a red thread that runs through everything we do. It’s not a “nice to have” but a “must have” 👶👶🏿👶🏾👶🏼👶🏻 #InternationalWomensDay #InspireInclusion #Futuremakers #WomenInLeadership #PoweringYoungPeople #LiftingParticipation #HereForGood

As Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Standard Chartered Foundation, I have the enormous privilege of overseeing the wonderful work of our flagship youth economic empowerment initiative, Futuremakers. Established in 2019, Futuremakers enables disadvantaged young women to learn, earn and grow. In its first five years, Futuremakers reached more than 2.1 million young people, 68% of whom are girls and young women, through community programmes focused on education, employability and entrepreneurship. Together with our trusted NGO partners we deliver programmes in many of our markets. Through insights from the rigorous measurement and evaluation of our work, we have also been learning what it takes to create real change. With that in mind, as we launch the next phase of Futuremakers, we are honing our approach to deliver concrete outcomes for young women that tangibly improve their lives. From 2024 to 2030, we aim to create and sustain 140,000 jobs through two areas of focus – employability and entrepreneurship. We will give 70,000 disadvantaged young women access to the skills training, mentoring and networks they need to secure decent employment, and we will offer business skills training, mentoring and networks to entrepreneurs to help them build thriving microbusinesses and create 70,000 new jobs. This International Women’s Day, I’m so proud that we are championing the need to accelerate investment in women. Improving women’s economic participation not only benefits them, but also their families and our communities. #internationalwomensday #inspireinclusion #futuremakers #womeninleadership #PoweringYoungPeople #LiftingParticipation #hereforgood

In MAGROUP, International Women’s Day is #Inspirewomanpower and #Inclusion. We want to celebrate all of our incredible #women who inspire and value our Group and who support our people in forging a better world. When women themselves are inspired to be included, it creates a sense of belonging, relevance and #empowerment. When women are not present, we have to ask ourselves, "why not?" When women are discriminated against, we must denounce poor practices. When the treatment of women is not fair, we must act. And we have to do it every time. In an organization there are many ways to #inspire inclusion. Everyone, can inspire inclusion anywhere For a step forward in the power of women. #MAGROUP #InternationalWomenDay #Inspire #Inclusion
