Happy National Public Health Week! One group in public health that supports civic engagement is Community Health Workers (CHWs). And an issue impacting CHWs that could be changed by civic engagement is CHW certification. You may have noticed that I took CHW off my profile. That’s because I was certified in a state with a state-operated program and then moved to a state without a program, meaning I could not transfer my certification, even though I continue to work on a significant public health issue: domestic abuse. And it turns out there is not yet a national certification program for CHWs, plus about half of all U.S. states don’t have a certification program. Should CHWs even have to be certified? Interested to hear your thoughts. #NPHW #NPHWChat #CHW #CommunityHealthWorker #PublicHealth #PublicHealthSocialWork #SocialWork #MacroSocialWork #MacroSW
Today is the first day of National Public Health Week! Monday is all about CIVIC ENGAGEMENT! Voting and other forms of civic engagement shape our community and how it allocates resources to support our opportunity for healthy lives. And studies show better public health outcomes in states where more people vote. www.NPHW.org #NPHW

Please share & show the world that you stand in solidarity with Philly harm reduction & public health. Harm reduction is crucial, life saving work, backed by decades of evidence. When I began this work I had zero intention of growing into an organization. I sat on my stoop in Kensington and offered my friends what little supplies I had. I collected items, stuffed them into my hoopdie and drove around until I was out. What has happened in the years following is something I never imagined. To stand here today in reflection, I am in awe of how the community responded and helped this little mission grow. These past couple weeks have been quite difficult both professionally and personally. But the outpouring of support locally and now globally has been overwhelming. The harm reduction leaders across the country reaching out and offering support, strategy and love has been so comforting. City council isn’t attacking Savage Sisters, they are looking to shut down public health and harm reduction orgs across the city. This was made public last week in a news interview. So now, more than ever, we have to stand together and advocate. Harm reduction is public health. . https://lnkd.in/e6kKy9X3 . . . #standforhumanity #publichealth #staysavage #harmreduction #harmreductionsaveslives #wedorecover
