At least half of all new DFAT bilateral and regional investments valued at more than $3 million will now have a climate change objective, reaching 80% of all investments by 2028-29. This means that projects, programmes, and organisations should have a policy outlining their position on climate change, what it means to them, and the types of actions they should take. This begs the question(s): what do you mean by climate change? What objectives do you consider important when working in developing communities that often don't have access to the resources and technologies they have and often use unrenewable energy sources to develop? How are we being accountable for our national and organisational climate policies? Are we developing the climate change objectives alongside the communities we are working with? or are we enforcing our policies and objectives on those without the privileges and resources we have? There's lots to reflect on there! #GEDSI #communitydevelopment #internationaldevelopment #climatechange #climatejustice #locallyled

🌅 #ClimateAction must be ambitious, just and inclusive. On #WorldEnvironmentDay, let's explore together how to collectively assess and enhance energy transitions partnerships. One of the more recent phenomena to emerge on the international climate policy horizon, Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs) promised to deliver quickly and effectively on just energy transitions in a select few developing countries. However, forged among a small group of partners outside the multilateral climate policy space, it is not yet clear how ambitious, just and inclusive they are. UNRISD convened a series of expert conversations and calls for an in-depth collective assessment to improve climate justice outcomes of JETPs. The brief with policy insights and recommendations is now available to download.

Putting locally-led climate adaptation principles into practice: insights from CBA18 --> https://lnkd.in/eRiszJVQ The recent community-based adaptation conference in Tanzania examined approaches for accelerating climate resilience through locally led adaptation. Here, IIED’s Acuda Aaron and CBA programming co-chair Sushila Pandit explain why a clear framework, reformed funding mechanisms, co-created programmes and private sector engagement are vital for turning theory into action. #CBA18 #LocallyLed #ClimateChange #adaptation

Blair Feltmate and Anabela Bonada, PhD highlight the critical imbalance in Canada’s climate financing—currently, federal funding for mitigation outpaces adaptation by a staggering 22:1. With government spending cuts looming, the need to reallocate funds for climate adaptation is more urgent than ever. Discover why this shift is crucial in the article below. https://lnkd.in/gaWXq9Bc

Why we need a policy framework on climate change …The Policy is developed to facilitate a coordinated, coherent and effective response to the local, national and global challenges and opportunities presented by climate change. An overarching mainstreaming approach has been adopted to ensure the integration of climate change considerations into development planning, budgeting and implementation in all sectors and at all levels of government. This Policy therefore aims to enhance adaptive capacity and build resilience to climate variability and change, while promoting a low carbon development pathway. #PolicyFramework #ClimateChange #Climateresilience
