Dublin, Ohio, has launched its first open-use esports center, Respawn, at the Community Recreation Center. But it's not just about gaming. The center's mission is fostering community engagement and providing opportunities for youth who may not have access to gaming technology at home. As esports continues to grow globally, major cities are beginning to seize the opportunity to enhance recreation options, boost youth engagement, and explore the economic benefits of hosting gaming events. “I’m seeing a lot of cities, when they look at things like revenue for the city, recognizing how many tournaments there are and how profitable those can be,” said Claire LaBeaux, chief advancement officer at the Network of Academic and Scholastic Esports Federations, which works with communities and schools to develop esports and related programming. “It’s a whole different group of people who go to tournaments, and [cities] can do them maybe off season from sports, and so it can drive revenue to the city essentially by implementing a different sport.” Learn more about the community impacts of esports here: https://lnkd.in/ehatdRSC #esports #gaming #gamingtournament #ohio #reccenter #videogames #northcarolina
