To withstand climate chaos and its effect on social and economic inequities, communities must be key actors in both preparedness and long-term resilience. This framework from the National Association of Climate Resilience Planners offers a structured approach to community-driven climate resilience planning, empowering communities to actively participate in planning efforts for a more resilient future. LGBTQIA+ environmental justice experts and advocates are crucial in the ongoing effort to protect the environment and communities disproportionately affected by climate change. These inspiring individuals motivate us daily to continue striving for a healthier, more just, and prosperous world. Some LGBTQIA-led environmental justice organizations doing this important work that we want to highlight are: • Real Estate Pride Council, a global council that advocates for LGBTQ+ visibility and representation in commercial real estate and the professions of the built environment • OUT for Sustainability, an organization that provides a platform for co-creating climate resilience and environmental justice by and for LGBTQIA+ communities • Queers x Climate, an international organization dedicated to uniting and supporting climate and LGBTQ+ activism to develop and implement solutions for our common global climate crisis • The Venture Out Project, an organization that leads backpacking and wilderness trips for the queer and transgender community and conducts transgender inclusion workshops for educators, adventure professionals, summer camps, and other organizations #Pride2023 #PrideMonth #LGBTQIA+ #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalJustice

On #WorldEnvironmentDay, we must acknowledge that climate change does not impact all people equally. Women and LGBTQ+ communities around the world are among the groups most disproportionately affected by the worsening climate crisis. The facts are sobering: 🔵Women and LGBTQ+ communities are often excluded from aid efforts after natural disasters strike. 🔵Women and LGBTQ+ communities are often the primary collectors of resources like water and fuel, making them most vulnerable to droughts and resource scarcity. 🔵Despite increasing demand to support frontline environmental justice work led by feminist and LGBTQ+ activists, funding remains scarce. Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism is working to close this gap by resourcing grassroots feminist activists and movements addressing the gendered impacts of the climate crisis. This World Environment Day, we urge funders to step up support for the vital work of feminist and LGBTQ+ climate activists building a more sustainable world for all.

Why I stand up for what's important, even though it can be exhausting. Yesterday I posted about a panel I was on last week at an YPO event. Stephen England-Hall has organised the event and was moderating the panel. After we had introduced ourselves, and talked a little about our lifes work, Stephen asked me how do I keep standing up for what is right even when it's hard. It was a great question and something I wanted the audience to think hard about because it is hard to stand up for what is right. I know it's hard to stand up for what is right because on more than one occasion, when I have stood up for LGBT+ issues or the need for urgent climate action, I have experienced not just a differing of opinion but deliberately offensive or hateful messages. Standing up for what is right, is like sticking your neck to get chopped right where it hurts. But the thing is, I know too much. I know too much about what is happening in the world not to stand up for what is right. And to be honest, I honestly don't know how more people can know what they know, and not stand up. (pic from the bathrooms before the panel started, what a wonderful little note for Genesis staff when they need to pee 😊) #leadership #dei #climatechange #sustainability

🏳️🌈The LGBTQ+ community has made significant contributions to environmental conservation and climate justice efforts! 🏳️🌈 This impact is driven by their unique perspectives and the intersections of their struggles with other social justice issues. ♥️Advocacy and Activism ♥️ Many LGBTQ+ organisations are deeply involved in environmental activism. Groups like Out for Sustainability (O4S) have been vital in integrating LGBTQ+ identities with sustainability values and organising service projects, summits, and advocacy events to promote environmental awareness and action. 💙Intersectional Approach 💙 The community's understanding of marginalisation informs their environmental activism. Organisations like Queer Nature and Queer Eco Project focus on creating inclusive spaces for queer individuals, especially those from marginalised backgrounds, to engage with nature and learn ecological skills. This intersectional approach highlights how environmental issues disproportionately affect marginalised groups and promotes inclusive solutions. 🩷Climate Justice Campaigns 🩷 LGBTQ+ groups have been active in larger climate movements. For example, the Rainbow Rebellion within Extinction Rebellion UK focuses on how climate breakdown could exacerbate discrimination and violence against marginalised groups, emphasizing the need for inclusive climate justice. 💚Events and Initiatives 💚 Pride events have increasingly incorporated environmental themes. Pride in London, for instance, has declared a climate emergency and taken steps to minimise environmental impact by banning single-use plastics and promoting zero-waste principles. These actions raise awareness and set a standard for sustainable event planning. 💛Educational Efforts 💛 LGBTQ+ activists work to educate the public and their own communities about the connections between social justice and environmental sustainability. These contributions show how the LGBTQ+ community is leveraging its unique perspective and commitment to justice to advance environmental conservation and climate action, demonstrating the interconnectedness of social and environmental issues!!!

Intersectional discourse within social movement has opened avenues to be more inclusive, build synergy through coalition building and set agendas. We are now witnessing the advent of currently transnational movements like Women's March, Black lives Matter, Global Justice Movement arising out of the World Social Forum all of which are led or heavily influenced by women and prominently featured from queer women, women of diverse identities and color, such movements see struggles against racism, classism, neo-colonialism, xenophobic, nationalism with different emerging themes like climate crisis, SRHR, eugenics and more. In this context, we were happy 😀 to collaborate🤝 with #ARROW observing the nexus of climate change and SRHR on indigenous women with disabilities through Scoping Study: Building Constituencies for Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Climate Change with NIDWAN 2024, #climateaction #SRHR are human rights for all #Crossmovement #Indigenouswomenandgirlswithdisabilities

Equality isn’t just about treating everyone the same; it’s about fairness and providing equitable access to opportunities. While we all need support to reach our goals, our unique needs can differ. Let’s embrace diversity, prioritize inclusivity, and make our world accessible to all. Everyone deserves a chance to thrive and succeed! Image Description: Dark orange background.
