📢 Community Call to Action The Ontario government is issuing $200 cheques to eligible adults and children under 18. While this will provide much-needed support to many, some individuals have shared that they don’t require the funds and are choosing to donate them instead. Here in Peterborough, the demand for assistance is higher than ever. Families are facing hunger, housing insecurity, isolation, and health challenges, and local charities are working tirelessly to address these needs. There are many local organizations that could benefit from additional support from you. If you’re in a position to give, consider donating your rebate to a charity that aligns with your values. You can find organizations through platforms like CanadaHelps (https://buff.ly/2Lot8xR), donate directly to your chosen charity, or support the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough (https://buff.ly/41viYmA) 🌟 Together, we can strengthen our community and provide hope to those who need it most. #HereForGood #GiveWhereYouLive

New research released by charity the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) United Kingdom has revealed the lasting impact of the cost-of-living crisis on the charity sector. 53% of those surveyed said that financial pressures are making it ‘unaffordable’ for them to donate to charities. Donations by people in the Midlands were found to be most affected by the rising costs of living, with a higher average of individuals being unable to donate due to increased costs. The research also suggests that young people have been largely impacted, with over half of 18–24-year-olds saying that they are finding it difficult to make donations. Despite the struggle to donate, many of those surveyed showed a high level of trust in charities and believe that they deliver value for money. “𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓” We're not against the Government raising funds for vital services, but estimates suggest that the National Insurance increase alone could cost the homelessness sector up to £60m per year. Coupled with the rise in the National Living Wage, this is forcing extreme financial pressure on already stretched #homelessness services - and could lead to increased caseloads for staff and smaller charities closing altogether. This is unacceptable, so we're working with other organisations to seek an NI increase exemption for charities. #NIRise #NationalInsurance #Tax #Homelessness #Charity

It's Small Charity Week, and the fact is, many of us in the UK believe our government should do more to back small charities. With the cost-of-living crisis worsening, over a quarter of us turn to these organisations for weekly support, highlighting their critical role in our communities. 🌟 NCVO's latest insights reveal disturbing trends: a significant portion of our population relies on small charities as the last resort for essential services. These charities are at the heart of fighting loneliness and building community bonds, but they need our reinforcement to keep doing their vital work. 🤝 Want to make a difference? As the temperatures drop significantly across the county, we use this opportunity to remind you to take care of yourself, as well as support those around you, particularly the elderly and vulnerable. Our ‘Surviving Winter Appeal’ is another, easy way of supporting those in need. Since it was first launched in 2011, we have given nearly £130,000 of support to local charities and voluntary groups. Funds raised through the Appeal have provided vital support to vulnerable people, ensuring they stay healthy and well during the winter period. Zoe Brampton, Grants Manager at ECF, said: “The Winter can be a difficult time for people who are already struggling financially, but also for those who are elderly or vulnerable due to issues including homelessness, disability or illness. Local charities and voluntary groups can provide a lifeline of support, but the rising cost-of-living, increased food prices and energy bills is making it difficult for them to continue providing their vital services. “But you can help! All donations to our Surviving Winter Appeal will enable us to support local voluntary organisations and activities to help reduce loneliness and isolation, contribute to fuel and food costs, and assist those in need to get access to specialist services and community groups. “If you receive the Winter Fuel Allowance or the Energy Rebate and don’t need it to pay your own bills, please consider donating some or all of this to our Appeal.” How you can help: - Donate your winter fuel payment if you don’t need it - Give a one-off donation - Set up a regular monthly gift - Give online through our page, see link below: Cheques can be sent to the Essex Community Foundation offices: 3 Hoffmanns Way, Chelmsford, CM1 1GU. To ask questions about the Appeal and other ways to make a donation, please call us on 01245 355947. Does your charity need funding this Winter? If you are a local charity or community group that needs funding to support your work during the colder months, including core costs (such as rent and salaries), please call our grants team on 01245 355947. #winter #communitysupport #appeal #donate

The amount of money donated to food bank charities has increased by 50% year on year, according to our research. This increase comes at a critical time, as the latest official statistics from the government reveal that 3.3% of households used a food bank within the last year. The operational costs for these essential charities have also increased due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. As a result, there is an urgent need for increased donations to ensure that they can continue to pay rent and to keep the lights on. Neil Heslop OBE, our Chief Executive, reflects on the community's response: “Even when times are tough, it’s heart-warming to see how people respond generously to support charities around the UK providing for more and more families. For those who can’t afford to give more, volunteering your time or donating goods is also a crucial way to help charities.” Read more: https://brnw.ch/21wJQhD #FoodBanks #Charities #Philanthropy
