As a nurse there are so many other options outside of clinical roles. Here are some of the coolest in my opinion: 1. Medical Device Industry: Step into a role where clinical expertise meets technology. Nurses here influence patient care through device education, liaison roles, or product development. 2. Legal Nurse Consulting: Merge nursing with law by helping legal professionals interpret medical information and evidence in cases. 3. Telemedicine Coordination: Facilitate virtual healthcare services by supporting patients and providers in the growing field of digital health. 4. Clinical Trial Management: Get involved in research by managing clinical trials, ensuring accurate data collection and participant care. 5. Occupational Health Nursing: Promote workplace health by preventing and managing job-related illnesses and injuries. These paths offer unique opportunities to apply your nursing skills in dynamic, impactful ways. Did you take a unique career path? What was is it?

According to a recent MGMA survey, 43% of medical group owners have hired alternative staff to cover open medical assistant roles. MGMA reports that many practice leaders look to fill the gap left by an MA vacancy with certified nursing assistants (CNAs), registered nurses (RNs), and licensed practical nurses (LPNs). "When MAs are unavailable, it puts practice administrators in a position to find someone else — including themselves, at times — to ensure a staff member can room patients throughout the day," writes MGMA Managing Editor Chris Harrop. Other tactics medical group owners are implementing to help cover clinical duties covered by MAs include: ✅Establishing a path for nonclinical internal staff or non-certified MAs to become MAs through education, training and apprenticeship programs ✅Hiring EMTs and combat medics ✅ Implementing a program for medical and nursing students as interns or part-time workers You can read more about MGMA's survey at: https://lnkd.in/gN3DWhVr #PracticeManagement #MedicalStaffing #MedicalAssistants

Overburden Many healthcare workers (physicians, providers, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, phlebotomists, imaging techs, pharmacy techs, environmental services, etc.) are experiencing overburden. An online dictionary defined overburden as: to make someone or something work too hard or carry, contain, or deal with too much. Are we asking people to work too hard or carry too much? Here’s an example of a primary care provider’s typical day: After seeing a full schedule of patients from 8 - 5 (he got lunch today, some days he eats at his desk), he spends 2 - 3 hours at home answering messages, reviewing labs and imaging reports, and other “indirect” work. He and his medical assistant have been together for 6 years and are a high functioning team. He is proud that together, they are caught up on their indirect care delivery for his large panel of patients. Adding to his burden is the concern that because he is caught up, the health system will move his medical assistant to help his colleagues - some of whom are several weeks behind on their indirect patient care. Breaking his effective and collaborative partnership will bury him in a backlog of tasks. Overburdening this provider and many other healthcare workers is creating burnout. Let’s do better. Where do you think we can start to reduce overburden? What’s our first step? #walkwithGrace #GraceBourke #healthcareimprovement #lean #processimprovement #quality #qualityimprovement #continuousimprovement #leancoaching #improvinghealthcare #digitaltransformation #engagement #peopledevelopment #RonaConsultingGroup #culture #humanfactors © 2024 Grace Bourke
