Senior care planning is not that different from child care planning. Why do most people not do it? It's confusing with all these terms, types of care. What do you need, when? Many factors to consider: cost, availability as many have long waiting lists, amenities as not all are created equal, location, level of independence for the resident, quality of care and what care is offered and included in the cost. Would you like to learn more? Give me a call or send me a message. Don't wait for a crisis to force a move.
Long-term care options can be so confusing. When I started my caregiving journey, I used to get assisted living communities and nursing homes mixed up all the time. I wish there was some placement test to determine care needs and suitable communities. At that time, I didn't know that this type of service existed, oops. Many people know home and hospice care, but the rest seems muffled. While home care can be a good option for many, this isn't always possible. This is why it's essential to understand all your long-term care options in case you need a backup plan. Here are the most common long-term care options. Which one will you choose?

New issue of Hospice Pass has been sent. Having Essential Conversations with Loved Ones - It’s not easy, but necessary. Navigating the complex and emotional landscape of end-of-life care requires open, honest, and compassionate conversations with our loved ones. Whether you're in the pre-care stage, during care, or post-care, these discussions are crucial for ensuring that everyone's wishes and needs are respected. In this week's HospicePass newsletter, we break down these conversations into three key areas: Pre-Care, During Care, and Post-Care. None of these conversations are easy. Check it out and subscribe (link in the comments) if you're interested in ways to prepare, have these conversations, discuss these things with your older parents. Trust me - no one has been able to answer 30% of the questions - if you can get them to even talk about it. Making the end-of-life journey as exceptional as possible. Thanks beehiiv - couldn't do it without you. National Association for Home Care & Hospice Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association #hospicecare #seniorcare #assistedliving

🏥 What is Hospice? 🌿 Hospice is a specialized form of care designed to provide comfort and support to individuals with terminal illnesses and their families. Focused on enhancing quality of life, hospice care prioritizes dignity and peace during the final stages of life. Here are some key aspects: 🤗 Comprehensive Support: Hospice teams include doctors, nurses, social workers, and volunteers who work together to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients. 👩⚕️ Pain and Symptom Management: Hospice care emphasizes controlling pain and alleviating symptoms to ensure comfort in the patient's remaining days. 👪 Family Involvement: Families are integral to the hospice process, receiving education, support, and respite care to help navigate the emotional challenges. 🛌 Care in the Comfort of Home: While hospice care can be provided in various settings, including hospitals and facilities, many patients prefer to receive care at home surrounded by loved ones. Hospice is about living fully and comfortably, providing support for both patients and their families during a profoundly important time. #HospiceCare #EndOfLifeCare #QualityOfLife #CompassionateCare #PalliativeCare #SupportForFamilies #HospiceJourney #DignityInLife #ComfortAtHome

At Amedisys our team goes over care goals and what matters most to both caregivers and patients alike, creating a program that is tailored to your needs and wishes. Did you know that the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) found that patients with certain terminal diseases who chose hospice lived an average of 29 days longer than similar patients who did not receive hospice? This fact dispels the myth that hospice hastens death while also showing that hospice could prolong life for patients with certain conditions. According to NHPCO researchers, hospice patients are more likely to: -Avoid the risks of over-treatment -Receive additional monitoring and treatments only available through hospice -Increase their desire to continue living due to the constant attention to their emotional wellbeing and physical health #amedisys #whatmattersmost #hospice #palliative
Hospice does not always mean the very end. To qualify for hospice, you need to have a terminal illness with an estimated prognosis of 6 months or less to live. Many people come on to hospice very late, within days to weeks of death. But, there are also those who we think may not have long to live, and once they begin receiving the care and attention from the hospice team, they start actually feeling better. Symptoms are managed, regular nursing visits are occurring to help avoid crisis, and additional support staff are helping the patient and family cope. Signing up for hospice does not mean giving up. It means shifting your care to take place in your home (or residence), focusing on symptom management, and maintaining the best quality of life possible.

Hospice care is generally recommended when a person is expected to live about 6 months or less. Families or patients may be hesitant to start hospice because it can feel like "giving up." However, it's important to understand that hospice is not a permanent choice. In our blog, learn when hospice begins, what hospice provides, and what families can do for additional support. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gg9Y6khu #HospiceCare #HealthChoices #HappierAtHome #HomeCare #ElderlyCare #SeniorCare
