Mr. Kidney: Hello, my name is Kidney, I am a twin and I'm here to tell you my story. You may not think much about me, but I play a vital role in keeping your body functioning properly. Every single day, I filter around 200 liters of blood to remove waste and excess water. I take that waste and expel it from your body in the form of urine. Pretty amazing, right? But that's not all I do. I also ↳ regulate your blood pressure ↳ promote red blood cell production. ↳ activate vitamin D for strong bones. Basically, I'm a multi-tasking rockstar. So why should you care ? When I am damaged you stand a chance of → Anemia → Bone disease → High Blood Pressure → Require dialysis or transplant to survive The good news is there are steps you can take to keep me in tip-top shape: ↳ Watch your blood pressure to safe nephrons ↳ reduce the load I have to process - eat well ↳ Hydrate to keep my filters running smoothly. ↳ lose excess weight to lower my workload. ↳ Monitor diabetes carefully ↳ Don't smoke Show us some love and we'll keep you healthy for years to come.
