Meet Darl T., also known as "Val," from our Field Operations Services division in the Big South Region. Val sprang into action when a vehicle parked in the office yard caught fire. After calling the authorities, he grabbed a fire extinguisher to prevent the flames from spreading. He remained calm and waited for the fire department to arrive. Thanks to Val's quick response, the fire was contained with no further damage. His efforts have earned him a coveted safety coin and are a great example of staying calm and taking action in dangerous situations. Great job, Val! #SafetyCoin #TrueGrit #OneCongruex

🔥 A Concerning Trend: Rise in Fire Clearance Work 🔥 This year, we’ve noticed a significant increase in fire-related clearance work across homes and businesses. While we’re always here to help restore spaces, it’s heartbreaking to see the aftermath of fires. It makes us wonder if the rise in disposable vapes and e-cigarettes, which can easily overheat and catch fire, might be contributing to this trend. ⚠️ As the use of these items continues to grow, so does the risk they pose when not properly disposed of or charged safely. Stay safe and vigilant, and if you ever need us, we’re just a call away to help clear the damage. 💪 #FireClearance #StaySafe #PropertyRestoration #VapeSafety #HouseClearance #JustClear #ZeroToLandfill

🚨 REMINDER: keeping gas in your tank isn't just about not running out of gas - it's for your personal safety! Some people like to live on the edge and not fill up their tank again until they’ve been driving around with the warning light on for a while (you know who you are…😅). However, crime and suspicious activities (including being followed while driving) are sadly on the rise. If you find that you may be being followed, you will not be happy about your decision to not keep your tank at least a quarter to half-way full at all times. Ensuring that you have sufficient gas in your vehicle allows you to have one less thing to worry about when you are trying to get somewhere safe. And remember, DO NOT drive home when you believe you are being followed. Drive to the nearest police station! Be sure to share this! . . . #securityservices #securitycompany #edmonton #yeg #safetytips

🔥🧯 Fire Extinguishers in Oil Stations: A Hero's Tool for Safety! 🚒 🌟 In the world of oil stations, fire extinguishers are the unsung heroes that can save the day! These crucial tools provide an immediate response to potential fires, protecting lives, assets, and the environment. 🔥 The presence of fire extinguishers is not just a requirement; it's a lifeline. With the ability to control and extinguish small fires before they escalate, they play a vital role in preventing catastrophic incidents. 💡 Here are some key steps to ensure the effective use of fire extinguishers in oil stations: 1️⃣ Know the types of fire extinguishers: Different types of fires require different extinguishing agents. Familiarize yourself with the various classes of fires and ensure you have the appropriate extinguisher for each situation. 2️⃣ Regular inspections: Conduct routine inspections of fire extinguishers to ensure they are in good working condition. Check the pressure, seals, and any signs of damage. Replace or recharge extinguishers as needed. 3️⃣ Proper placement: Install fire extinguishers in easily accessible locations, following local regulations and industry standards. Ensure they are visible, unobstructed, and within reach in case of an emergency. 4️⃣ Training and awareness: Provide comprehensive training to employees on the proper use of fire extinguishers. Teach them how to assess the situation, operate the extinguisher, and follow safety protocols. 5️⃣ Emergency procedures: Develop and communicate clear emergency procedures for fire incidents. Include evacuation plans, assembly points, and designated personnel responsible for handling fire extinguishers. 6️⃣ Regular drills: Conduct regular fire drills to ensure employees are familiar with emergency procedures and can respond effectively in real-life situations. 🙌 Remember, when armed with knowledge, you become a true hero in times of need. By following these safety steps and promoting a culture of fire safety, we can protect lives, assets, and the environment in oil stations. 🚒 Let's prioritize fire safety and be prepared to tackle any potential fire hazards. Together, we can ensure a safer work environment for everyone involved. Stay safe! 🔥🧯 #FireSafety #OilStations #SafetyProcedures #BeAHero #staysafe

Partner @ Fire Rover: Changing The Way The World Fights Its Fires; COfounder/Partner @ COhatch: Strengthening Communities & Improving Lives;
19-year-old who was quarter mile away from fiery explosion killed by flying canister: Michigan officials The fiery #explosion was at a #vaping distributing company in Clinton Township. Clinton Township #Fire Chief Tim Duncan described it as a "tremendous amount of fire." "In my 25 years ... this, by far, was the biggest one that I've ever seen," Duncan told reporters Tuesday morning. The blast shook cars that were 1 to 2 miles away, officials said. The blast sent debris -- including blades -- flying into the air, officials said. The debris field was likely a half-mile in each direction, officials said. YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP! I had literally written about this in my article: “#Waste & #Recycling’s Frontline: A Toxicologist’s Perspective.” The materials we process at our waste and recycling facilities can present both physical and health hazards that range from minimal to severe. One hazard can be found in #batteries, which contain #gases that are highly flammable and #toxic. The materials we process at our waste and recycling facilities can present both physical and health hazards that range from minimal to severe. One hazard can be found in batteries, which contain gases that are highly flammable and toxic. The type of gas released depends on the battery chemistry involved but typically includes carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, methane, ethane and other hydrocarbons. In this month's article, we sit down with a career toxicologist to better understand what can be done to protect our frontline workers and fire professionals from the threats they face due to the materials they handle. Since I began working in this industry in 2015, I have had a concern I cannot get out of my head: The dangers of lithium-ion batteries, which can shoot shrapnel when they hit thermal runaway or explode. This very thing happened in the below video when a loader ran over an electric bike battery. Knowing this danger, why are companies selling lithium-ion battery-specific fire extinguishers where the person fighting the fire must be standing within mere feet of the hazard? Add to that the dangers of the potential toxic off-gas exposure when fighting a fire at a close distance. There is no scenario where I suggest standing within six feet of a hazard with a handheld fire extinguisher in an effort to fight a lithium-ion battery fire.
