A delayed recap of Day 2 of the AGCAS Annual Conference after rushing back to Lisbon to celebrate Santos Populares and slathering my skin in the scent of sizzling sardines 🐟 I boarded the plane at Manchester airport feeling very optimistic ✈ I'd just spent two full days witnessing first-hand the amount of passion ❤️ energy 🔥 and enthusiasm 😁 there is to truly transform the UK Higher Education system for the better. Knowing wholeheartedly that education and employability really are now merging as one. Highlights as follows: 🍪 1. Still no biscuit dilemmas on the breaks, but they did put white chocolate chip cookies next to the fruit bowl. White chocolate chip cookie 1 - Apple 0. 🧠 2. Loved hearing how Bev Herring and the team at (award-winning 😉) Aberystwyth University have approached integrated employability like the gargantuan, complex, multi-layered, institution-wide transformation initiative it is. As with any business transformation, which happens to be where I’ve spent the last almost 10 years of my corporate career at the LEGO Group Group and The Very Group, university transformation requires strong leadership, dedicated resource, sufficient budget allocation, meticulous planning, clear direction-setting, stakeholder engagement, KPIs and reporting. 3. Bev’s talk was the perfect segway for Darren S. at University of Liverpool to dive deeper into how having a large, dedicated and credible team is a key enabler for the successful implementation of a university-wide integrated employability strategy. 4. After feeling totally uplifted hearing Jennie Tannett and Keren Coney sharing Liverpool John Moores University's co-creation initiative working with students to support neurodivergent students and those with disabilities within the context of careers and employability, it was amazing to chat to Chris Finn, Waf Njonjo-Shaw FRSA and the rest of the team in person. As both Liverpool John Moores University alumni and former employee, this friendly and forward-thinking institution in my home city will always have a big piece of my heart ❤️ 5. And lastly, just before I slipped out of the back doors of the auditorium, I listened to a talk on a topic that flares my nostrils, tenses my muscles, gets my mindset into warrior-mode. A topic that makes me want to be the instigator of change... a talk on the decline of student mental health by award-winning GP Dominique Thompson. While on the surface, we all have employability metrics to be measured against, underneath our KPIs is a mission so much more proufnd and meaningful - to empower nextgen talent with the Mindset, Skils + Experience they need to thrive 🙌 If you’re interested to hear more about how Mindless Academy partners with universities, charities and responsible brands to unlock student potential and boost graduate outcomes, please do book a call. I’d LOVE to connect! #agcas2024 #ukhighereducation #employability #graduateoutcomes

Last month, I had the privilege of joining Dawn Williams and Martijn van de Veen at the ICEF Global Monitor Summit, where we explored how universities and student accommodation providers can better curate student communities. The session covered key insights on building trust, fostering community, and addressing the unique challenges international students face when choosing, and moving into accommodation. The full recording is now available here: https://lnkd.in/eqYypEND. If you work in this space, it’s definitely worth a watch. Some key insights from our conversation: + Building trust through effective communication – For international students, trust begins long before they move in. We explored how clear, transparent messaging from the very first interaction helps reduce uncertainty and establishes confidence. + Creating a sense of belonging through marketing – Community building doesn’t start on move-in day. Listen how operators can cultivate and market a sense of belonging early in the journey, ensuring students feel connected before they even arrive. + Tailoring communication to diverse needs – International students have unique concerns, from safety to social integration. We discussed how targeted, thoughtful communication can address these challenges and help students feel part of their new community from the start. If you’re in the industry, I highly recommend giving it a watch. Let me know your thoughts! Thank you to ICEF and all the speakers for such insightful discussions. #StudentAccommodation #ICEF #Community #StudentExperience #StudentMarketing #ThisIsReal

A Somewhat Surprising Connection between Coaching and Milan Design Week This year's #MilanDesignWeek revealed an unexpected yet fascinating fusion between the realms of design innovation and personal growth. At the heart of Milan's design celebrations stood the Rubin Museum of Art’s MANDALA LAB, a sanctuary of creativity nestled in the verdant embrace of BAM - Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano. The Mandala Lab's experiential journey dived into the complexities of human emotions, echoing the profound insights of coaching. This experiential journey revolved around self-awareness and awareness of others - of course, these are the core concepts in coaching as well. The lab’s installations weren’t just a feast for the eyes but an invitation to introspect — to navigate the intricate labyrinths of self-awareness and the delicate dance of understanding others. The Mandala Lab brought for everyone to experience how complex emotions work. In the video you can learn more; pause it, read and find useful insights. You can particularly benefit if you are on a journey to understand your emotions and how they transform into actions.

The first seven months of 2024 have been a whirlwind, and I’m incredibly proud of all that we’ve achieved here at Sledge. Here’s a taster of what both we and I have been up to… 🇺🇸 Leading team Sledge to deliver an annual US event was a particularly mighty moment. Despite changing almost entirely one month out, it was celebrated by our client as "the best one yet." 🌿 Driving our purpose driven agenda through our sustainability actions has been a real standout for me. Importantly, while we’ve made improvements, there is still much more to be done, and I’ve been passionately striving to position Sledge as an advocate of, and voice for the events industry when it comes to sustainability and CSR. ✍️ Another element of this, is our commitment to reporting our activity via CPD. Transparency around ESG is vital, and engaging in this for a second year not only allows us to see how we have progressed, but take accountability for how we can improve further. 🏆 From a people perspective, I was thrilled to see team members named in the CN 30underThirty – Class of 2023, and I’m personally honoured to have been featured in Conference News' inaugural CN Agency100. 🫶 Purposeful partnerships are incredibly important to us, and building on existing client relationships, which has seen us create new teams to support these most effectively across both events and film, has been another highlight. Onwards and upwards to our ongoing summer of sport, autumn conferences, end of year experiences, and more 🌟 #Sledge #eventagency #eventprofs #eventproduction #sustainability #agencyculture
