A very interesting event last week on "Gestion d’actifs des fondations – Analyse et benchmarking" hosted by the Centre en philanthropie (GCP)- UNIGE and SwissFoundations in Geneva. Many thanks to the excellent panellists Cyril Berner, Brigitte Rorive, Nathalie K. and moderator Prof. Henry Peter. My takeaways focus on the aspect of #impactinvesting: 🌳 A large majority of foundations consider sustainability criteria in their asset management (89%). Not quite half them select their asset managers according to these criteria (49%), but 64% of them receive sustainability reports from their asset managers. ✨ Leaders like Fondation Leenaards are particularly demanding regarding sustainability in their public equities and bond portfolios. They have dedicated ESG-policies in place and specialists on board in their investment committees. "Coherence with the foundation values" is key for them. 🔓 Unlocking measurable social impact through #impactinvesting remains new territory. The panellists confirmed that common asset allocation distributions - even in BVV 2 / OPP2 - can be overruled according to the risk capacity of an organisation. Yet, we learned that foundations are looking at new formats when embarking on impact investments involving #alternativeinvestment asset classes and #privatemarkets. The ideas are the following: 1️⃣ Establish a dedicated pool within the foundation endownment for impact investments 2️⃣ Partner up with other foundations for co-investments and joint dedicated asset-manager mandates 3️⃣ Identify larger foundations that have more manoeuvring space to lead by example in impact investing Marie Wyss (Masschelein), Mara De Monte, Nathalie K., Brigitte Rorive, Fondation Leenaards

We are delighted to announce a new investment deal for #EvershedsSutherlandItaly. With a team led by the Partner Lorenzo Fratantoni and composed of the junior associate Lorenzo Marinelli, we have advised HBI S.r.l. - an Italian company pioneering poly-generation technology for sludge treatment in a circular economy perspective - and founders Daniele Basso and Renato Pavanetto in successfully completing their EUR 15 million Series A investment round.   Eversheds acted with a multi-practice team composed by the Executive Partner Valentina Pomares and the Principal Associate Antonio Santini for the labour aspects. CDP Venture Capital - the largest Venture Capital manager in Italy and among the largest in Europe - acted as the lead investor in the Series A round, contributing through the Green Transition Fund, which leverages resources allocated by the EU under the NextGeneration EU initiative, as well as the Fondo Evoluzione.    👉 This strategic operation will enable HBI to advance its industrial and commercial growth, both in Italy and international markets.
