I’ve swapped Oxfords for Crocs… And airplanes for an RV. Work now happens wherever I choose to park it for the night. Designing an intentional life where I have 100% freedom of my time didn’t start 2 years ago when I retired from corporate sales. It began many years ago when I started my first sales job in 2006. Although I didn’t know exactly what the future would hold… I did know I wanted to be more in control of it. Getting into a career of sales helped me build a life of abundance and autonomy. And I’ll be forever grateful because of it! Now, I balance my time exploring new personal adventures while helping other sellers find their own abundance and complete autonomy. 💼 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗪𝗶𝗻: 𝗔 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟴 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀! 💼 When I joined Sanford Federal, Inc. as an Operations Associate, I knew I had to prove myself quickly. Just 18 days into the job, I was handed a critical task: secure a quote for a major contract valued at over half a million dollars. The team was on the verge of working with a sub-contractor who offered a quote that would have resulted in only a 5% profit margin. They gave me this challenge to see what I was capable of. Determined to make an impact, I dove into the details and reached out to a different sub-contractor. After a thorough meeting to ensure we were on the same page, we crafted a plan that not only met the project's requirements but also significantly boosted our profit margin. The result? A remarkable 31% profit margin—a far cry from the original 5%. But what made this achievement even more memorable was the surprising coincidence—the quote number matched my badge number, 458. It felt like everything was falling into place for a reason! This experience, just 18 days into my role, taught me the importance of taking initiative, fostering clear communication, and thinking strategically. These skills continue to drive our team’s success in federal projects, construction, professional services, and beyond.

This year will mark my 40th year in the workforce. My first job was working in a Circuit City warehouse, pulling orders, from things as small as Radar Detectors to giant television sets (back when TVs were big and heavy!) I was 15 and an athlete, so I saw the whole affair as a workout opportunity, running to pull orders and carrying the heaviest load possible. Pondering my work life from those early days, to college jobs, to entry-level, to leadership, to starting a company or two, a few things, a few things I have found to be indisputable: Competency and expertise in the given work deliverables and the knowledge to be able to implement and manage those tasks are of the highest order. Practicality is an essential attribute. Positive people with an optimistic outlook win, attract winners, and offset the presence of negativity. Creating drama solves nothing. There is already enough real drama in the world. Relax. Not everyone is entrepreneurial and not everyone has initiative. When you find such people do everything you can to keep them on the team and happy. This next one is a hard one…some people, not many in my experience, are just miserable, so do all you can to avoid this constituency in your work and life. They will poison the whole pond. Lastly…Have fun doing what you do and surround yourself with people you enjoy being around. My two cents. Have a great day.
