Today, at long last, do we have a goal and a strategy for our green hydrogen future. For too long have we been sitting on our hands. Australia can power the world with renewable energy and green hydrogen has, for good reasons, been labelled "The fuel of the future". 7% green energy (excluding existing pumped hydro), that is how far the world has come at this point. Not ideal. Green hydrogen is the only thing that can avert a climate catastrophe. If that is still possible. We have the biggest lineup of green hydrogen projects in the world. Most of which has happened under our noses, with little government support. The goal now is 15 to 30 million tonnes by 2050. Considering that the Western Green Energy Hub is targeting 3.5M tonnes by 2040, the 15 M tonne goal seems somewhat beige. Anyway, still good to see some progress. https://lnkd.in/g5agcmsj

Is it a good idea to invest in green hydrogen? 💧 The green hydrogen market is booming. All eyes are on it because of its significant advantages in addressing the major challenge of climate change. 🌱 The EU wants to reach 40 GW of electrolysers and 20 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen by 2030 to achieve energy independence. The IPCEI Hy2use project is providing €5 billion for 35 projects in 13 countries. But investment in green hydrogen has risks. The technologies are expensive and there is a lack of infrastructure. It is produced through electrolysis using renewable energies like wind, solar, or hydropower. While completely CO₂-free, it comes at a cost due to its energy-intensive process. ⚪ Grey H₂: The most common, made from natural gas. Unfortunately, it releases carbon dioxide, but it's more affordable. Economical but not environmentally friendly. 🔵 Blue H₂: A transformed grey! If CO₂ emissions are captured during production, it becomes blue hydrogen. It costs a bit more but is a step toward cleaner energy. 🟣 Turquoise H₂: The newcomer!
