Help us connect you to the Spirit of the Land 🌿 In the heart of Country, we are guardians entrusted with a sacred duty. We are the rangers, guided by the wisdom of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Directors, the Treaty Council, the Sacred Sites Preservation Project, local Elders, and Clans. Together, we are responsible for protecting our environment and nurturing the land that sustains us all. But existential fires rage on, consuming more than just the environment. They devour our history, culture, and connection to this ancient land. The flames grow perenially fiercer, fueled by decades of environmental change, neglect and misguided regulations. Yet, in the face of this devastation, we are not silent. With the voices of truth-tellers like Professor Michael-Shawn Fletcher, we speak out for change. We demand action to restore balance to our ecosystems and revive the art of endemic land management: cool burning practised by our ancestors for generations. Our land and the community suffer. But no longer shall we remain bound by these chains. It is time for a new era of stewardship, where we reclaim our rightful place as custodians of the earth. Join us on this journey of restoration and renewal. Together, we can transition the flames of destruction to the fire of hope and ensure a future where our communities can thrive in harmony with the land and enjoy it responsibly with all the freedoms restored. #communityengagement #volunteers #nonprofit #charity #Spirituality #Reconnect #GrassrootsMovement #Aussie #australian #hiddengems #bushusers #environment #bushfire #IndigenousWisdom #culturalheritage #LandManagement #Sustainability #SacredSites #FirstNations #AboriginalCulture #FireManagement #hiking #Conservation

It’s energizing to see the enthusiasm around the Chubb Charitable Foundation’s new funding opportunity in climate resilience. Thank you to all who have amplified our announcement and shared with your networks! The Foundation seeks to support organizations implementing climate resilience solutions that have been tested and found to be effective in strengthening the resilience of the natural environment and/or vulnerable communities. In particular, we seek to support time-bound projects with long-term sustainability in one of the following areas: 🌊 Nature-based solutions that are focused on land conservation or the protection, restoration, or expansion of systems including coastal wetlands, oyster reefs, mangroves, and/or coral reefs. 🌽 Agricultural resilience solutions that are focused on helping smallholder farmers outside of the United States transition to restorative practices and/or be better positioned to absorb and recover from climate-related impacts. 🤝 Community resilience solutions that are strengthening the climate resilience of community infrastructure and/or connecting community members to green jobs. We are accepting applications until September 10th. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eXycvyFn

🌲🌳 Last week, Maryland reached a major conservation milestone — after setting its “30 by 30” goal in 2023, the state announced that, as of February 2024, it had reached this goal six years ahead of schedule. This means that the state has already conserved more than 1.85 million acres out of Maryland’s 6.1 million acres of total land area. State leaders credit partnership as key to this conservation success, including working closely with local governments, nonprofit land trusts, conservation organizations, federal agencies, and landowners. Maryland is now looking towards its next milestone — conserving 40% of land by 2040. 🔗 Learn more about Maryland’s conservation progress via the Maryland Protected Land Dashboard: https://lnkd.in/e2vxTDtc

Like many coastal areas along the Gulf of Mexico, northwest Florida has been experiencing flooding exacerbated by sea level rise, as well as tropical storms, heavy rainfall events, and man-made impediments that are becoming more frequent and severe. Proud of our work with Seaside Institute exploring ways public-private partnerships can advance community resilience in Walton County, FL. https://ow.ly/VLaa50SyWxs

It’s long overdue, but the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released new requirements for removing lead service lines in the U.S. Access to safe and affordable water is fundamental to the health and wellbeing of our communities. It’s crucial to prioritize efforts to remove lead service lines, especially in rural and underserved neighborhoods that have historically been overlooked. Read more about the new requirements here: https://lnkd.in/gHZ4frtZ
Access to safe, affordable water is a cornerstone of a healthy community and a human right. For generations, lead exposure has silently robbed millions of children - especially those living in communities of color, communities with lower incomes, and rural places - of this right. With this regulation in place, our country finally says: no more. RWJF applauds EPA for requiring the removal of all remaining lead service lines in the United States within the next decade. It is now incumbent upon all of us—water utilities, policymakers, community leaders, and philanthropies—to work together to devote the necessary resources to beating that deadline and prioritizing the most affected neighborhoods for immediate action.

January 26th led me to discover some incredible Indigenous organisations: Original Power, First Nations Clean Energy Network, and Firesticks. The latter stuck out for me as I can see that the work of caring for Country with 'the right fire, in the right Country' (which has been largely denied for the last ~200 years) is absolutely vital to this continent's ecosystems. One issue I have with the idea of 'conservation' is that many Western approaches to conservation see humans as 'other', as a species that doesn't exist within a thriving ecosystem and whose impact needs to be minimised. I appreciate that 'caring for Country', including Indigenous fire practices, recognises that the original people of this land have been living as part of nature, and part of their Country, for millennia, and that this is ultimately the relationship we should all strive to have with our Country, wherever it may be. As a non-Indigenous person living on Aboriginal land, donating to Indigenous organisations whose work I appreciate is one step towards being a good ally (and doesn't excuse me from the work of showing up and acting as an ally every day). There are few days when solidarity and support matters more than January 26th. If you live in Australia, and your ancestors haven't done so for >60,000 years, please respect and support First Nations however you can. #paytherent

KUA and network leaders connect to the Indigenous Guardians programs around the world. KUA's Kuaaina Advocate Olan Fisher and network leaders Billy Kinney Jr ( Hui Maka'ainana o Makana )and Jerome Kekiwi Jr. ( Na Moku Aupuni O Koolau Hui and theMaui Nui Makai Network )were privileged to contribute to a global gathering and discussion on Indigenous Guardian programs supported by funders like Nia Tero , Resources Legacy Fund , and The Christensen Fund to explore networks Indigenous Guardian Network. Though the closest thing Hawaii has to this is through Hawaii DLNR (Department of Land and Natural Resources) Makai Watch Program. We believe the state can continue to bolster this program and support greater place based community involvement in management especially in our rural Native Hawaiian communities. We will continue conversations about guardian programs for Hawai'i as Indigeous communities across the world continue to take up the Auamo. https://lnkd.in/gFRigFNY
