According to a new vision document released Tuesday, the service is carving out new space-related missions: Integrating joint space capabilities and interdicting or disrupting adversaries’ use of space for hostile purposes. “Developing new space capabilities organizations and trained professional soldiers to develop effects for Army maneuver forces is critical to multi-domain operations,” the vision document says. “Rapid proliferation and tactical application of competitor space capabilities will erode the advantages that ensure U.S. land dominance. To counter this challenge, current and future Army space integration and interdiction capabilities must enable multi-domain operations for the Army.” “The vision also communicates the urgent need to invest more in space capabilities and formations.” Contact CRG for pre/post award support. Is the Army going to space? Sort of. The creation of the Space Force hasn't sidelined the Army. Instead, it's spurred the Army to adapt and define its own role in the final frontier. 🚀 The Army is carving out its niche in space by "integrating joint space capabilities and interdicting or disrupting adversaries’ use of space for hostile purposes", which will be carried out by Multidomain Task Forces (MDTFs). In short, the Army will work towards integrating the space domain to assist their ground operations- could this be a model for the other services? Could this lead to enhanced Army/Space Force collaboration? https://lnkd.in/erKgswgF

US Army carves out its role in space - Defense News "Before the Space Force’s establishment in 2019, the Army’s space-related mission areas included satellite communication; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; and missile warning. All of those capabilities were transferred to the Space Force over the last several years. But, according to a new vision document released Tuesday, the service is carving out new space-related missions: Integrating joint space capabilities and interdicting or disrupting adversaries’ use of space for hostile purposes." Calian Group understands the opportunities - and dangers - that accompany the world's increasing use of space, especially as a growing domain for military activities. Warfighting and global competition are no longer limited to the ground, air or sea. Now, they’ve gone to space. Faced with growing competition and the rapid advancement of technology, critical space capabilities will be increasingly contested by America’s adversaries. The U.S. Army and its sister services depend on space enablers such as satellite communications, GPS, missile warning, electronic warfare and more as the services train and prepare for a transparent, more lethal future battlefield. As the military’s largest user of space, the Army must maintain its advantage in the final frontier to ensure its success in the future fight. #ReadMore in ARMY magazine...https://loom.ly/vV6Ymc8 #AUSAorg #AUSA #USArmy #electronicwarfare #futurefight #globalcompetition #satellitecommunications #tech #satellite #communication

The U.S. Army’s top leadership has unveiled new guidance underscoring the vital role of space systems in modern ground warfare and calling for greater investment in space capabilities. The memo, released Jan. 8, was signed by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George, Army Secretary Christine Wormuth, and Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Weimer. It outlines a vision for enhanced integration of space capabilities across all Army operations and activities. CRG: Your Trusted Partner for Space Dominance. These articles raise crucial points about the Army's interest in expanding space control capabilities and the distribution of funding among different branches for China-focused conflicts. It's essential to consider the unfilled requirements needed to support specific service operations and the challenges of funding all tasked missions appropriately with limited budgets. Furthermore, while the USSF is currently tasked as lead for space “integration,” shouldnt discussions be focused on enabling joint commands, like U.S. Space Command, to define integration and set requirements for joint space architecture? Combatant Commands exist for enhancing cross-domain missions and functions to conduct joint operations. Combatant Commands also play a vital role in emphasizing collaboration, defining capability gaps, and influencing service budgets to meet their operational needs.

Sharing a third article from #MilitaryReview's special #space and #missiledefense edition. This one is by Master Sergeant Love (yes, what a great name!). MSG Love argues that the #Army needs dedicated #Soldiers whose sole focus is space operations. A great piece, and one that is made all the more satisfying by its inclusion of little-known historical facts about #ArmySpace. #spaceoperations, #ArmyUniversity, #spacewarfare, #SpaceForce, #SpaceCommand, #thebattlebeyond https://lnkd.in/gDmgjePj

Today, Galbreath and Reeves share another OpED. Unfortunately, this OpED deviates further from fact and demonstrates a disconnect from the Department of Defense. If you are not presently engaged in joint forums, you need to make a lot of assumptions, as they did in their OpED. These assumptions often lead to inadequate research, poor analysis, and half-baked recommendations. A few points of clarification from the article. The Army does not have a deep-seated mistrust of other services. We welcome support from all the Services to help accomplish our mission to 'organize, train, and equip Soldiers' to fight and win our nation’s wars as part of a joint force. Ill-defined Armed Forces roles and responsibilities? Nope. Check out DoD Directive 5100.01 as a good starting point. Straightforward guidance and clear direction. Whether you like the directive is another issue... Money and oversight? Believe it or not, there is a joint process for this too. The DoD is currently going through a period now called program budget review. If you are not part of this process, you could make poor assumptions about how resources are distributed across the Department. Program budget review brings everyone together to review each other’s budget in public. This process ensures transparency and accountability. Is there a “breakdown” in joint doctrine? Nope. There is both joint and service doctrine. I hope this isn’t a surprise. Also, the Army Space Vision is not doctrine, it’s a vision. Recommend reviewing doctrine like JP 3-14 (Space Operations) and FM 3-14 (Army Space Operations) before jumping to conclusions on terminology. For additional context, check out how “interdict” is used in DoD Directive 5100.01. It is an Army function to “interdict enemy sea, space, air power, and communications through operations on or from the land.” That's where the term comes from if you do your research. For Space Superiority, we can draw parallels to the air domain. Army aviation provides “local” air superiority mostly for land forces. It can also contribute to air superiority as part of the joint force. Just like a Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) and naval aviation. How is this rationale different in the space domain? It is not. The Army contributes to space superiority, but cannot achieve space superiority. All the Services have air forces that can contribute to air superiority, but I would be willing to bet the only service that can achieve air superiority is the Air Force. As I said before, no one wants to out Space Force the Space Force. The OpED misses the mark on many levels. Let me know your thoughts.
