This is a fantastic collaboration that will support CBL’s ongoing growth whilst providing greater communication access to those in need. Awesome to see !
As Jim and Mass Device report, this is the first public look at Canary’s cardiac monitor recently tested in patients in South America. The commercial version will have a customized battery and specialized componentry that will reduce its size to less than half of that shown. It can be placed under the skin in the precordium (over the heart) using minimally invasive techniques that can be performed in office in a few minutes. Taking advantage of the principle of auscultation (“listening” to the heart sounds - a clinical skill all physicians learned in medical school), this digital auditory device can “hear” and quantify the amount of stenosis or regurgitation present in the 4 heart valves. An ECG assists with accurately timing the heart sounds as well as providing rhythm assessment. By identifying“crackles” in the lungs, fluid balance and heart failure status can be assessed. Narrowings or “bruits” in the carotid and coronary arteries can be detected and quantified. The body is a very noisy place; the key is filtering out all the unwanted sounds to identify those that are relevent to cardiac assessment. In future iterations, sensors will be added to assess pressure and flow.
The stethoscope has been an essential medical tool for over a century because it can identify so many different cardiac pathologies. It hangs around the neck of every clinician precisely for that reason. Placing it subcutaneously makes sound collection and identification ten times more accurate. Digitalizing the sound signal makes it possible to isolate, amplify, and quantify the auditory information. This device aims to be a tool that augments what physicians have already known for a hundred years - except it will be on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and report back automatically for years.

Here's a first look at the latest medical device from smart implant developer Canary Medical Inc.
The device's first-in-human trial was also the first first human implantation of a cardiac auscultation sensor device. (Read more from Sean Whooley at MassDevice: https://lnkd.in/eUri7QCi)
I'm told CARE is just an internal project name for the device, not a final product name like the CHIRP (Canary Health Implanted Reporting Processor) implant used in Zimmer Biomet Persona knee implants.

"Silk Road Medical, Inc. figured out a way to dramatically lower the risk of stroke during carotid stenting by avoiding navigating the aortic arch and using the skills of the vascular surgeon to get direct carotid access,” says Michael R. Jaff, DO, Boston Scientific’s chief medical officer for peripheral interventions.
Silk Road’s Enroute stent is a version of Cordis’ Precise stent provided through a license agreement, which Boston Scientific plans to continue.
Instead of using a distal protection device to catch debris before it reaches the brain, Silk Road’s neuroprotection system—also branded Enroute—temporarily reverses the blood flow through the carotid artery so that any embolic debris released by the stent deployment moves away from the brain (see Figure 1 below).
Boston Scientific’s planned $1.26 billion acquisition of Silk Road Medical will change the transcarotid intervention market by bringing Silk Road’s innovative transcarotid artery revascularization technology to more surgeons than ever before, especially outside the US.

Why is it critical to get #spinalfusion right the first time?
Find out in this article about 3DMorphic, an Australian start-up that designs and manufactures patient-specific spinal fusion devices using Mimics Medical.
A medical device should undergo rigorous testing and adhere to strict regulatory standards to ensure patient well-being. This becomes even more vital within the intricate world of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), where potential risks to patients' implantable medical devices must be carefully addressed.
Discover a clear path to seamless and secure operation for your customers' medical implants. TÜV SÜD's MRI Safety Testing infographic presents a comprehensive 5-step approach that ensures precision and patient well-being.

Recently I scanned MRI patients with CPA Tumors but without a contrast media agent. He has had hearing problems, only the right ear for several months, and his face feels thick only the right side.
There was no diagnostic before, but the referring physicians suspect some problem in the cranial nerve area, so he just wants to know 7 and 8 cranial nerves.
I have rules in MRI Brain scanning. For the fourth one scan must be DWI, FLAIR, T2, and ToF. After that have to scan the most important sequence that gives information about the diagnosis or suspected diagnosis.
So because the scanning without contrast media, I think I must give more information about the lesion with more detail. With BRAVO and T2 focus (with thin slice thickness = 1.00 mm).

Tech Talk: Ever wondered about Medex's Contact Tips?
Wavelength Conversion Effect (WCE): At the heart of the Contact Scalpel lies the groundbreaking Wavelength Conversion Effect. Imagine a laser beam interacting with the scalpel's material, being absorbed, and then re-emerging as a precise, more usable energy. This transformation enhances cutting accuracy and reduces thermal damage, a game-changer in surgical procedures.
Laser Precision Unleashed: Breaking it down for the tech enthusiasts among us, the Contact Scalpel operates with laser precision. The re-emerging laser energy creates a thermal profile that proves to be more effective in tissue cutting. This, coupled with simultaneous coagulation and minimal lateral thermal damage, enhances the efficacy of surgical interventions.
For the technically inclined, the Contact Scalpel boasts a tip diameter of 0.2mm and crystal lengths tailored for specific surgical needs. Probes with varying angled distal ends allowing precise incision with maximum lateral coagulation.
Why does it matter? The Contact Scalpel's precision, coupled with simultaneous coagulation and minimal lateral thermal damage, translates to faster OR times and potential reduced risks for patients. Surgeons can navigate with unparalleled accuracy, making complex procedures more manageable and ensuring optimal outcomes.
In conclusion, Medex's Contact Scalpel isn't just a tool; it's a testament to the marriage of science and innovation. Stay tuned as we continue to unravel the mysteries behind cutting-edge medical technologies.
